The Board of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of Valencia, meeting in a virtual extraordinary session on 5 June 2026, has approved by 27 votes in favour, 0 against and 0 abstentions the following statement regarding the strike by teaching staff in the public education system:
The Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication expresses its support for the indefinite strike begun on 11 May by teaching staff in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, Official Language Schools and Higher Schools of Artistic Studies.
Our faculty wishes to express its solidarity with the demands put forward by the teaching staff in defence of a quality, inclusive, publicly funded education, which respects the working conditions of teachers and guarantees the presence, promotion and normalisation of Valencian as a native language. We consider that the public education system is a fundamental pillar for social cohesion, equality of opportunity and the critical education of citizens, and that its strength depends largely on the recognition and effective support for the work of its professionals.
This agreement is in addition to the supporting statements approved by the Departments of Catalan Philology, Classical Philology, Spanish Philology, Language Theory and Communication Sciences, as well as the support expressed by the Department of French and Italian Philology. The Faculty considers that the defence of a quality public education must be a shared responsibility for all institutions committed to education, culture and social progress. Likewise, it recognises the importance of guaranteeing adequate working conditions for teaching staff, which are essential for the proper fulfilment of their educational duties.
Therefore, the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication urges the Ministry of Education and its competent bodies to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
