The Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication has welcomed the President of Eurasia Foundation (from Asia), Mr. Yoji Sato and the foundation council member Jumpei Sato. Mr. Sato came to visit the UV and give a talk for the Tradiasia project (Transculturality and Diversity in East Asia ), coordinated by Dr. Marcos Centeno. The project was applied through the Vice-Rector's Office for Internationalization and Cooperation and received the funding of $36,000 from for 2023/2024. Previously, the general secretary of the foundation, Dr. Joon -Kon Chung, who visited the UV on 3rd May 2024 to deliver another lecture, met with the vice-rector for internationalization, Dr. Carles Padilla, dean José Antonio Calañas, his dean team, the head of the Department of Theory of Languages and Communication Sciences, Adolfo Carratalá and members of the Tradiasia organizing committee.
The project sponsored a course offered at the Faculty of Philology , Translation and Communication that addresses the transcultural dimension and diversity of East Asia. The analysis of this historical-cultural complexity of the region, which reevaluates area studies by going beyond national borders, is carried out by world leading experts in this field, from the United States (universities such as Yale, Harvard and NYU), Europe (Cambridge, SOAS, King's College London, Vienna) and Japan ( Hokkaido and Kyushu University ).
The course is offered to students, as well as the wide audience, and the generous support from Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) is a great opportunity to help the UV to bring together Europe and Asia and boost the visibility of the UV’s East Asian Studies, reinforcing courses offered at this school, such as the Certificate in Japanese Studies and the Minor in East Asia, as well as the teaching of East Asian languages offered at the UV Language Centre and the Confucius Institute.
