The Universitat de València (UV) presents this evening the commemorative documentary of the 25 years of Diàleg (Dialogue) between writers and young readers, a pioneering initiative promoted by the institution of promotion of culture and Catalan contemporary literature that, since 2000, has approached authors to 15.000 students from 4th ESO and 1st and 2nd Baccalaureate of educational centres from the whole Valencian territory.
The act takes place today, 6th June, at 6:00pm, at the Aula Magna from La Nau Cultural Centre of the Universitat de València. The presentation comes after the commemorative session hosted last month of May at La Nau, which gathered people in charge of the project –writers who participate, teachers, and students–, to reflect upon the journey and impact of a proposal that has been consolidated as a reference in the reading promotion.
Fostered by the Department of Catalan Philology of the Universitat de València and coordinated by the full professor Carme Gregori Soldevila, the project invites an author of Catalan contemporary literature every year to discuss with students the chosen book. For months, the centres that participate prepare the reading and several activities before the face-to-face meeting with the author, thanks to the preparation of the material that the Diàleg team from the Universitat de València organises.
In this 25 years, leading figures of Catalan literature have participated, such as Martí Domínguez, Manuel Baixauli, Clàudia Serra, Carles Alberola, Josep Lozano, Jaume Cabré, Imma Monsó, Maria Barbal, Carme Riera, among many others. Every edition involves approximately 15 to 20 secondary schools of the Comunitat Valenciana.
The documentary gathers statements of the people in charge of the project, students, teachers, and writers who participate, as well as the intervention of the Principal of the Universitat de València –Juan Luís Gandía– to show the evolution of an initiative that has turn reading into a shared experience between creators and young readers.
The documentary has been produced by the Office of the Vice-rector for Culture of the Universitat de València, and has the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana, through the Conselleria de Educación, Cultura y Universidades, the Department of Catalan Philology, and the Interuniversity Institute of Valencian Philology.
