The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) developed by the Shanghai Ranking's Consultancy in this year's edition highlights the Universitat de València as the first university in the area of Remote Sensing among Spanish universities, and the thirteenth at the global level. Most of the research in this area is developed in the Departament de Física de la Terra i Termodinàmica and the Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), with staff attached primarily to the Facultat de Física.
This Faculty, in collaboration with professors of the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria, has actively participated in the organization of the 38th International Geosciences and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS 2018), the most important international congress in the Remote Sensing area, led by professor José Moreno of the Departament de Física de la Terra i Termodinàmica and president of the Organizing Committee. In this edition of the congress, which this year carries the slogan ‘Observing, understanding and forecasting the dynamics of our planet ', the participants will address topics such as future Earth observation missions, climate change or the latest techniques in remote sensing, observation, knowledge and prediction of dynamic processes on the planet.
This congress is being held on 23-27 July in Feria Valencia, hosts around 2,400 scientists from 64 countries, and includes the participation of diferent institutions such as the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) or the University of Houston (United States).
