BIODIVERSA+ is an association of biodiversity research organisations formed by 40 European and associated countries which has published a call for proposals with the title:
Restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity
As for Spain, the State Research Agency (AEI) is participating with a global budget of 1,500,000 euros for the Spanish entities of the approved project consortia. The Biodiversity Foundation is also participating, with 600,000 euros. Its funding requirements and conditions can be found at this link, along with other information regarding the call, focused on fostering innovative research to be integrated into nature restoration practices for interconnected and well-functioning ecosystems and habitats, with special consideration for long-term sustainability and future-proofing of restoration efforts across spatial scales, including their evaluation.
The research topics are as listed below. The proposal can address one or more of these topics:
Topic 1: Setting restoration targets and measuring success
Topic 2: Scaling and transferability of nature restoration efforts
Topic 3: Long-term sustainability of restoration efforts
The project must be a transnational project involving eligible Partners from at least three different countries participating in the call and requesting support from at least three different Funding Organisations; including eligible Partners from at least two different EU Member States or Associated Countries participating in the call.

The deadline for submitting preliminary proposals ends on 7th November 2025 at 12:00 p.m. CET and for complete proposals, on 14th April 2026 at 12:00 p.m. CET.
