RESEARCH ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION (ENGLISH)
The research conducted by I-PSI-TEC focuses primarily on psychopathology, the assessment and treatment of psychological disorders, and the promotion of well-being and quality of life through the integration of technology into psychological interventions within the field of digital mental health.
We currently lead one of the research groups within CIBER in the area of Biomedicine and Health Sciences ([www.ciberobn.es](http://www.ciberobn.es)). Over the last 30 years, our group has explored the opportunities that Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can offer to Clinical and Health Psychology. We have been pioneers worldwide in the use of ICTs for the promotion of mental health and well-being. We have extensive experience in the design, development, dissemination, and transfer of empirically validated technological applications for psychological interventions. We are international leaders in the development and validation of technological applications and digital solutions for mental health. In particular, I-PSI-TEC has pioneered the application of technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, mobile devices,...Anglès:
In particular, I-PSI-TEC has pioneered the application of technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, mobile devices, and Internet-based solutions in psychology.
These achievements have been made possible through our participation and leadership in more than 80 research projects funded through local, regional, national, and international calls, as well as through collaborations with public and private institutions and companies. The group has participated in excellence programmes such as PROMETEO, numerous projects funded by the Spanish National R&D Plan, and major European projects funded under the Framework Programmes, H2020, and Horizon Europe. These include OPTIMI, e-COMPARED, iCare, EHCOBUTLER, Tactility, ReConnected, and other projects aimed at developing, evaluating, and implementing innovative digital solutions to promote mental health, well-being, and quality of life. The group also participates in public-private initiatives focused on the application of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence to health, such as TANIA and DALIA.
Over the years, we have developed, evaluated, and implemented digital interventions aimed at preventing and treating a wide range of mental and physical health problems, as well as promoting psychological well-being. These include programmes for the treatment of phobias ("Sin Miedo"), depression prevention ("Sonreír es Divertido"), transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders ("Tratamiento Transversal"), promotion of healthy lifestyles ("Vivir Mejor"), resilience enhancement ("CORE"), chronic pain management ("POETS" and "CLEVER"), and the promotion of positive body image ("BODYTA", "AN-BODYMENT", and "BODY R-VALUED").
We have also participated in international initiatives designed to promote healthy lifestyles and well-being through digital technologies ("OPTIMI"), support active ageing and quality of life among older adults ("EHCOBUTLER"), improve access to psychological care through blended-care models ("e-COMPARED"), promote prevention and mental health across different populations ("iCare"), foster resilience and well-being among vulnerable groups through personalised digital interventions ("RECONNECTED"), and develop innovative artificial intelligence and digital technology solutions to support the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults with chronic conditions ("TANIA") and individuals experiencing physical and mental health difficulties ("DALIA").
More recently, the group has incorporated the development of personalised digital micro-interventions, real-time ecological monitoring systems, and immersive technologies aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of psychological processes and providing more accessible, adaptive, and person-centred interventions.
Overall, I-PSI-TEC has always been committed to advancing mental health and well-being by improving our understanding of psychological problems and developing interventions that can help individuals across a wide range of contexts and circumstances. Our ultimate goal is to generate scientific knowledge and transfer it to society, both through dissemination to the general public and through collaborations with institutions, services, and companies that transform scientific evidence into useful and accessible solutions for people.

- To improve understanding of the psychological mechanisms involved in the development, maintenance, and recovery of mental disorders.
- To identify protective factors and psychological processes associated with emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
- To develop, evaluate, and implement effective, accessible, and personalized psychological interventions supported by digital technologies.
- To investigate the potential of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and ecological monitoring systems, to improve the prevention, assessment, and treatment of mental health problems.
- To promote the transfer of scientific knowledge to clinical, healthcare, educational, and social settings through the development of innovative evidence-based solutions.
- Promotion of Well-Being and Positive Mental Health.Analysis of the psychological and social factors that promote well-being and quality of life, with special emphasis on prevention, the promotion of positive mental health, and the development of evidence-based interventions aimed at strengthening personal and social resources.
- Experimental Psychopathology and Psychological Change Mechanisms.Study of the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural processes involved in the development, maintenance, and recovery of mental disorders, with the aim of identifying key intervention mechanisms and optimising psychological change processes.
- Enhancement of Digital Psychological Interventions through Artificial Intelligence.Application of artificial intelligence techniques to optimise ICT-based psychological interventions, enhancing personalisation, outcome prediction, treatment effectiveness, adherence, and scalability of digital mental health solutions.
- Suicidal Behaviour, Stigma and Prevention.Study of risk and protective factors associated with suicidal behaviour, as well as stigma related to mental health problems. This research line aims to develop and evaluate prevention, early detection, awareness-raising, and help-seeking promotion strategies across different populations.
- Psychotherapy Processes and Cross-Cultural Adaptation.Analysis of change processes involved in psychotherapy and study of the cross-cultural adaptation of psychological interventions, assessment instruments, and mental health promotion programmes across different cultural contexts and populations.
- Promoting healthy lifestyles. The way of living has an impact on the physical and mental health of individuals. The research group aims to investigate and provide strategies to achieve a better quality of life in people, developing interventions applied through ICT.
- Psychological interventions through ICTS.The use of ICTs is growing exponentially in the field of clinical psychology. Our aim is to design applications (web platforms, virtual reality, mobile systems) that serve as therapeutic tools in the assessment and treatment of psychological disorders.
- Mindfulness and compassion.Psychological interventions based on mindfulness and compassion have strongly burst into the field of psychological treatments. This line of research aims to investigate the effects of their practice on different psychological aspects, such as attention, emotional regulation or values.
