Description of research activity:
DERIVES is a research group committed to the analysis and critical transformation of educational processes from intersectional and situated perspectives. Its research activity focuses on understanding how emotions, relational bonds, diversities, and power relations shape teaching, learning, and knowledge production experiences across different educational contexts, particularly in higher education. The group develops research oriented towards the study of pedagogical practices, institutional cultures, and educational experiences related to social justice and forms of resistance to the dynamics of standardisation, productivity, and exclusion present in contemporary education. It also promotes projects focused on teaching innovation, critical pedagogies, and the creation of more participatory, relational, and inclusive educational environments. DERIVES works through qualitative, quantitative, collaborative, and participatory methodologies, incorporating diverse approaches that enable the generation of situated knowledge connected to the lived experiences of individuals and communities involved. Through its research, the group aims to contribute to the development of more democratic...DERIVES is a research group committed to the analysis and critical transformation of educational processes from intersectional and situated perspectives. Scientific-technical goals:

Research lines:
  • Bonds.Education, Affections, and Relationships: Emotional and Relational Dimensions of Learning This line of research explores education as an affective, relational, and situated process, in which emotions and relationships act as central dimensions of knowledge production. It analyzes how affections, care, interdependence, and listening shape educational experiences, teaching practices, and collaborative research, both in formal and non-formal contexts. Key: - Emotions as forms of knowledge and pedagogical action - Educational relationships, care, and relational ethics - Affections, desire, and embodiment in learning processes - Affective and narrative methodologies in educational research
  • Diversities and Intersections in Education: Bodies, Identities, and Inequalities. This line focuses on the critical analysis of diversities and intersections that shape educational experiences, understanding difference as a constitutive condition rather than a deviation. From feminist and intersectional perspectives, it examines how to shape both inequalities and possibilities for educational transformation. Key Areas: - Inclusive education from critical and intersectional approaches - Bodies, identities, and normativities in educational contexts - Situated experiences of exclusion, resistance, and agency - Educational policies and institutional practices from an intersectional perspective
  • Pedagogical Resistances and Situated Epistemologies in Education. This research line is oriented towards the critical analysis of educational processes, with particular attention to situated experiences that inform and shape teaching, learning, and research practices. Its aim is to examine how multiple dimensions influence knowledge production and the configuration of educational experiences in both formal and non-formal contexts, with a specific focus on higher education. This line of inquiry explores how educational practices may contribute to questioning and transforming dynamics of inequality, exclusion, and homogenisation embedded within educational systems. From critical and intersectional perspectives, it seeks to understand pedagogical experiences, institutional cultures, and processes of knowledge production linked to participation, the recognition of diversity, and the development of more inclusive and socially engaged educational environments. It also aims to foster research that advances methodologies and teaching practices which support forms of learning more responsive to the lived experiences of educational communities. Regarding the academic contribution of the group, DERIVES promotes the generation of scientifically robust knowledge committed to social justice and educational transformation, fostering dialogue between research, teaching practice, and societal impact through academic publications, innovation projects, collaborative networks, and training activities addressed to diverse educational and community contexts.
