The Research Group in Sociology and Social Anthropology (UV) develops an interdisciplinary agenda aimed at understanding contemporary social transformations through sociological and anthropological approaches. Its lines of research combine the analysis of social processes, structures, and institutions (public policies, sexualities, health, education, inequalities, care work, the labor market, etc.) with the study of cultures, practices, and meanings in local and transnational contexts. The group also focuses on the digitalization processes of contemporary societies, the production of subjectivities, and the dynamics of gender, youth, and social participation. Methodologically, it integrates qualitative research (interviews, ethnography, discourse analysis) and quantitative research, as well as mixed methods, with a commitment to knowledge transfer: generating evidence for the design of interventions, evaluating programs, and advising institutions and social actors.

• Generar conocimiento sociológico y antropológico riguroso sobre las transformaciones sociales contemporáneas, articulando análisis cualitativos y cuantitativos de estructuras, instituciones y prácticas cotidianas para comprender desigualdades, cambios culturales y reconfiguraciones del trabajo y la vida social, con vocación de transferencia a políticas públicas, organizaciones y debate social. Analizar procesos de cambio social vinculados a mercado de trabajo, digitalización/plataformización, educación y políticas sociales, identificando mecanismos de producción y reproducción de desigualdades (clase, género, generación, territorio) y sus efectos en trayectorias vitales, subjetividades y conflictos sociales. Investigar, desde enfoques etnográficos y comparativos, cómo se configuran identidades, valores, prácticas y formas de convivencia en sociedades contemporáneas (contextos urbanos y transnacionales), atendiendo a diversidad cultural, migraciones, tecnologías y experiencias de desigualdad en la vida cotidiana.

• Social anthropology of contemporary societies.This research line focuses on the anthropological analysis of contemporary societies, paying attention to cultural diversity, ways of life, and the transformations of everyday life in urban and transnational contexts. It examines practices, values, and identities, as well as their links to inequalities, migration, the environment, gender, generation, and technologies. It prioritizes ethnographic and comparative approaches to understand how meanings and social relations are produced in scenarios of accelerated change.
