The research focus of TIFON members is the phonology and morphophonology of the languages of the world, both from a synchronic and typological perspective. Research studies developed by the group aims to offer an accurate description of the phonological systems of particular languages, and achieve a greater understanding of phonological principles active across languages. TIFON linguists are interested in various kinds of phonological issues: (i) the segmental, suprasegmental, and prosodic units that make up the phonological systems of languages, (ii) the most common phonological processes documented in natural languages, (iii) the principles that regulate the organization and distribution of linguistic sounds, (iv) the interaction between morphology and phonology and, more recently, (v) the relationship between a language's phonology and its poetic meter.
In the empirical and theoretical domain, the work of the TIFON group is framed within different theoretical models and approaches, as Optimality Theory, Prosodic Hierarchy Theory, laboratory phonology, and Natural Morphology. In the applied domain, members of TIFON have collaborated in the development of digital tools for the training of second-language pronunciation, such as the multilingual database L1-L2map (https://l1-l2map.hf.ntnu.no/) and the CALST platform (Computer-Assisted Listening and Speaking Tutor, https://www.ntnu.edu/isl/calst), which currently allows users to practice the pronunciation of Spanish, Central Catalan, Italian, and Modern Greek through its Pygmalion prototype (https://pygmalion.hf.ntnu.no/).

- Applied Linguistics and Pronunciation training.Contribution to the development of applications to improve the teaching and learning of second language pronunciation, as well as tools for linguistic contrast to enhance pedagogy, with special focus on the official languages of the Valencian Community. Contribution to the development of software to improve the inclusion and learning of people with motor disabilities.
