This research group will be dedicated to the study of collective identities of nation, gender, class and race in a comparative and transnational perspective in the contemporary era (19th to 21st centuries). These areas will be approached from an intersectional perspective, paying attention to the interactions and multiple nature of collective identities. The group proposes to focus the study of collective identities from an interdisciplinary perspective with special attention to the social and cultural history of collective identities. This entails the study of political cultures, social movements, popular and mass culture, written culture and visual culture. The spatial framework of the group encompasses Europe, Americas and Africa.
- Estudio de las identidades colectivas aplicando una renovada perspectiva de historia comparada y transnacional, superando el nacionalismo metodológico.
- Aplicar el marco analítico derivado de la perspectiva de los estudios interseccionales a todas las identidades colectivas.
- Desarrollar el marco teórico de la historia cultural, postcolonial y decolonial aplicado al estudio de las identidades colectivas en los espacios metropolitanos y coloniales o postcoloniales.
- Estudio de las representaciones de las identidades y su interacción en la cultura escrita y audiovisual.
- Aplicación de los giros cultural y espacial en el estudio de la construcción y transformación de las identidades colectivas.
- Nation, nationalism and national identities.This line of research deals with studies on the construction of national identities in contemporary times from a comparative and transnational perspective, in Spain, Europe and America. It is dedicated to the study of nationalist political movements and cultures. It addresses the processes of social construction of national identities as well as the diffusion of national cultural imaginaries. The study of the state as well as sub-state and regional framework are included.
- Gender and sexualities.This line of research is dedicated to the study of gender in a comparative and transnational perspective in Spain, Europe and America. It deals with the study of the historical social processes of defining masculinities and femininities. It also addresses the construction and practices of sexualities, both those defined as hegemonic and those located on the margins or outside the norm.
- Class identities.This line of research studies the construction of class identities in a comparative and transnational perspective in Spain, Europe and America. It deals with the analysis of political and social movements which have made class the center of their identity and collective action. It addresses the study of forms of sociability and cultural consumption practices defined by criteria of belonging to social class.
- Race and Racialization.This line of research deals with the study of the historical construction of racial identities in a comparative and transnational perspective in Spain, Europe, America and Africa. It deals with the study of the processes of racialization and stigmatization of minorities. It addresses the study of colonial empires and their effects, both in the colonized territories and in the metropolises, including post-imperial periods and dynamics.
