CONFERENCES AND GENERAL ACTIVITIES

Wednesday 21st October 2015, 7:30 p.m. Centre of Contemporary Culture Octubre, 12 San Ferran Street, Valencia

On the occasion of the anniversary of the 17th Week of Science of the Universitat de València  and the 18th International Conference of the Catalan Association of Artificial Intelligence,  Carles Sierra, researcher of the Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence-CSIC, will impart the conference:
Ramon Llull: del Ars Magna al cálculo de acuerdos”.

The philosopher Ramón Lull (1212-1316) wrote Ars lul•liana. It was methodology for arguing in order to convince non-Christian population to convert to Christianity. Although this purpose was obviously of little importance for Ramon Llull, it certainly meant an important contribution to one of the most interesting research subjects in the field of multi-agent systems: The Calculation of Agreements. Lull created a basic alphabet (later extended by Leibniz), that contained numbers. By making multiple combinations, he managed to build a consistent vision of the world that nobody would be able to refute. Lull’s contribution to logic, reasoning and social election will be explained in the conference, as well as the current tendencies of discussion. Particularly, the conference will focus on certain techniques for negotiating, arguing and regulating.
