Last February, we were lucky to get to know one of the main responsible of this great invention called Science Bar. Philippe Chomaz participated in a course organised by the Chair for Science Dissemination where you could think about communication and science dissemination from different theoretical and practical perspectives. He is investigator in the Gran Acelerador Nacional of heavy ions in Caen, author of the book Arbres en les estrelles. Els orígens còsmics de la matèria –of the Sense Fronteres collection, co-published by the Universitat de València and Ediciones Bromera. Philippe Chomaz received the 2001 Jean Perrin Awards for scientific culture for the success of this initiative that began in Paris and has extended to several countries.

Chomaz, along with Marie Odile Monchicourt, was inspired by the philosophy cafés already existent in the French capital to propose a situation of equivalent dialogue, but with a science as the central theme. A cafeteria in the city, a cocktail bar, a space usually dedicated to leisure, relaxation and social gatherings become the ideal setting to create a forum for discussion about any scientific idea. An espresso with a dash of milk, a beer, a drink and an idea! Everyone can order whatever they want, while the ones more active already start questioning to scientists and specialised professionals willing to find, or at least try, some answers.

It is not a conference or a round table or a master class: it is a meeting between public opinion and a group of experts on the controversy generated around their searches. An animator will moderate this debate and ensure its accessibility. Like any bar, you cannot miss the live music that will accompany the evening. The debate does not belong to anyone, but it is built between the citizen and the experts with a clear objective to bring together, not only knowledge, but also the passion that its makers feel for science. The European Week of Science and Technology is born with this objective, the Science Bar is another way to carry out, to make possible a true dialogue between science and society.

In the Bar of Science, The transgenic paella we will deal with transgenic foods, the evolution of gastronomy and the science of cooking… and everything you want to ask.
