Coordinating Centre for Gender Studies of the Public Universities of the Valencian Country

Centre de Coordinació dels Estudis de GènereThe centre was established on 21 February 2003 with the purpose of motivating and strengthening the research and studies in women and gender of the Valencian Country.

Its aim was to benefit from the existing synergies in the interdisciplinary research about the situation of women and gender inequalities, which are explained with great tradition in the Valencian universities.

The current configuration of the researching organisations in each university is diverse. From the latest interdisciplinary Seminar in Gender Studies of the Miguel Hernández University, to the well-established University Institute for Women Studies of the Universitat de València, are developing research and postgraduate teaching works in the University Institute for Research in Gender Studies of the University of Alacant, as well as the Isonomia Foundation and the Purificació Escribano University Institute for Feminist and Gender Studies of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló.

The different research centres on gender studies which already exist in four of the universities of the Valencian Country, maintain periodic meetings since July 2002 with the objective of promoting research networks, unifying teaching programmes in the third cycle, as well as the joint execution of awareness-raising activities about gender studies.

  • The first public activity of the Centre was the creation of the "Presen Sáez de Descatllar” Price of Award, thanks to the funding provided by the Valencian Government.
  • Nowadays, “Sessions on women and gender studies in the public universities of the Valencian Country” are annually celebrated.
  • Finnally, it is important to highlight another activity promoted by the Coordinating Centre was the launching of the official postgraduate programmes, organised around the Equality Policies and the gender studies.
