The University Research Institutes are centres destined to scientific and technical research or to the artistic creation, and can organise and develop teaching activities in doctoral studies and postgraduate studies in general, and to provide the technical assistance in the field of its competency, according to the statutes of Universitat de València.
The institutes of Universitat de València can be part of the institution, of inter-university, mixed or state assisted type with public or private institutions or affiliated, and have as objective fields of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study.
The university research institutes that are part of Universitat de València have as government organisms the scientific committee, the council and the director. The composition of the Institute Council aims to cover a representation of the teaching and research staff, training researcher, of administration and services and, if necessary, of students affiliated to the institute.
A competency of the director is representing the institute, the ordinary direction and management, as well as the competencies not specificallly attributed to other institute organisms.

The regulations that establish the procedure for the creation of the Research Infrastructures of the UV indicate that the research groups are basic structures for the organisation and development of the research task, that resulted because of the association of researchers -free and voluntary- by reasons of stable coincidence in their objectives, infrastructures and resources, shared in turn of common research lines, similar or complementary with stability temporary commitment, consolidation and joint work, and sustainable funding capacity.
These research groups are run by a member of the PDI (teaching and research staff) of Universitat de València with the qualification of doctor and full-time dedication, that have the functions of directing, coordinating and representing the group.

The Interdisciplinary Research Structures (ERI) are inner structures of the Universitat de València, created under the Statutes and Organic Law of Universities that, under the supervision of the Vice-Principal with competencies concerning research and scientific politics, aim to achieve objectives of scientific, technical or artistic research that, by their characteristics, cannot be developed by one or several departments or other existing structures in the Universitat.
Each ERI can propose to the Government Council the election and operation numbers of its government organisms, among which compulsorily there has to be a responsible to represent it, who has to have the condition of civil servant PDI or full-time hired doctor of Universitat de València.
