The exhibition 'Caminos a Castilla. Paisajes del transporte' ('Roads to Castile. Transport Landscapes') aims to analyse and shed light on the historical, territorial and cultural evolution of the 'Caminos a Castilla', one of the historical routes from the Valencian Community towards the centre of the peninsula. These routes and infrastructures reflect the perception of territorial and social space through various historical periods; the different means of transport through the ages and changing transport technology; and travellers’ experiences. Through dialogue with and a historical analysis of the region, a cultural landscape, or transport landscape, has been built up and is part of Valencian heritage and identity.
The starting point for the exhibition is the agreement signed in 1427 between Valencia and Requena to construct a road for carriages and travellers. From that moment, the road tells its own political, economic and social story, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Its history introduces us to the development of communications across different political and economic stages in the Valencian Community from the 15th to the 21th century.
