The exhibition 'Assuts, tradició, enginy i patrimoni' ('Weirs, Tradition, Ingenuity and Patrimony') addresses the water wheels typologic and constructive dynamism in the Renaissance, from the most arcaic ones to the great masonry.
The weirs (from arabic 'al-sudd', obstacle or obstruction) can be defined as a low height diversion dam placed inside a riverbed to slow down the current, drift the water sheet and divert a part of the water to a canal.
Hence, the weils being a ressource and an essential element to obtain water for the Historical Valencian irrigation systems. Despite that, they have been considered technologically simple because they appeared to not have had significant transformations until the Industrial Revolution. However, this is far from true.
In this exhibition we will discover who were their authors and its great influence in the improvement of Valencian irrigation. All this, aiming to disseminate their existence and reclaim their patrimonial value.
