The Language Centre of the University of Valencia has signed an agreement with the General Council of the Judiciary to offer Valencian (CGPJ) language courses in the framework of a continuous training service of the CGPJ according to article 72 of statute 2/2011 of the Judicial Structure, sections 1 and 4 describing and authorizing the courses the Language Centre will teach as part of career development (merits) for personnel of general body of the Judiciary. The modality of these courses will be in a live online format, which is a pioneering initiative in Spain and has the objective of promoting the knowledge and use of Valencian among members of the judiciary.

Two types of Valencian courses are being offered: an elementary level course of 80 hours of synchronous classes with a teacher, with more than 20 hours of independent work guided by a tutor through the virtual classroom of the Universitat de Valencia. The other course is for those people who have knowledge of the Valencian language that will be done independently by the user to certify that they have the required level in terms of the necessary skills to communicate in Valencian in their professional field.

The course content is focussed on the progressive development of spoken and written skills with a special emphasis on the practice of Valencian in the working environment. It follows a methodology focussed on active learning by using communication activities that enable participants to apply the acquired knowledge in real situations.

In terms of the evaluation, it will be continuous and include tasks that will test the four basic skills: listening and writing skills, as well as speaking and written expression. These final tasks represent 60% of the course final mark while the remaining 40% is based on assigned extra tasks taught by the teacher.

The students enrolled in this course will have access to the virtual classroom of the University of Valencia where they can follow the classes directly. These sessions are two hours of duration and are done twice a week with options of connecting in the morning or evening depending on the preferences of students. In total there 40 sessions of classes with a total of hours of language training.

Moreover, these students will have a personalized teacher to guide them during their learning process and training. Using individual tasks in the virtual classroom, students can revise grammatical content, widen their vocabulary and in a practical way to simulate professional situations in which they are using Valencian.

At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of achievement that accredits the level acquired, facilitating their integration and professional development in which the learning of the Valencian language is increasingly more valued and required and can now be accredited to obtain points.

The Language Centre of the University of Valencia is a reference point at the state level offering a wide selection of online courses at different levels in Valencian and is focussed on the certification of C1, which is required for a state placement exam. This new collaboration with CGPJ widens even more so its educational offer of the centre and consolidate its commitment to the promotion and dissemination of Valencian.
