Description of research activity:
The Psychonomy Research Unit (PRU) is a research unit directed by Prof. Dr. Hector Monterde i Bort, who is also responsible for the Universitat de València-Estudi General (UVEG) in those projects in which the Psychonomy Research Unit participates, with the PIC Code: 999953019. The Psychonomics Research Unit was founded in 2002 as a research unit within the Department of Methodology of Behavioural Sciences of the Universitat de València, and is now internationally known, being referenced in several scientific and professional websites. Since its constitution, it has provided advisory services, survey design and data processing to professionals in psychology and other health sciences, to national and local institutions, such as the Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos de la CV, the Consejo General de la Psicología de España or municipal offices, as well as international institutions, such as the European Federation of Psychologists Associations (EFPA), the Standing Committee on Traffic Psychology or the International Co-Operation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic Safety. The research group has organised and organises scientific congresses and working meetings in different states or countries. The Psychonomics Research Unit has also participated as a partner (research member of the consortium) and responsible for the Universitat de València in 5 international projects, 3 of which have been funded by the European Commission (in the Framework Programmes), one by a global institution, and one by the Dutch national government: 2003-2005: Life Quality of Senior Citizens in Relation to Mobility Conditions (SIZE). 5th Framework Programme (EU): 'Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources', key action 6 ('The Ageing Populations and Disabilities'). Contract number: QLRT-2002-02399. 2006-2007: Implementation of urban mobility observatory in Bogotá -Colombia-. Projejct funded by the World Bank through the Alcaldía Mayor de Bogotá (Colombia), and the private companies Organización Pablo Bocarejo Ingenieros-Consultores (Colombia) and TOOL-ULEE, S.A. (Spain). Main researcher on the Spanish Side: Hector Monterde i Bort (contract between Tool-Ulee, S.A. and the Universitat de València, through the OTRI). 2006-2010: Pedestrian's Quality Needs (PQN). Scientific-technical goals:
  • Participar en projectes europeus en els quals es necessita la identificacio de un grup o equip de treball especific, especialitzat en el camp de la convocatoria
  • Aportar als consorcis de una oferta metodologica, que inclou el assessorament estadistic, disseny de les investigacions i el desenvolupament dels instruments de arreplegada de dades
  • Desenvolupar nous indexes i sistemes d'avaluacio en els projectes en els que la unitat participe
  • Participar com opinio "experta" en diferents activitats cientifiques, que van des de la avaluacio de projectes nacionals (no Espanyols) i internacionals, fins a la avaluacio de articles per a revistes cientifiques i congressos
  • Contribuir (junt als altres grups que tenen participacio internacional) a que la Universitat de Valencia estiga en l'ambit internacional de centres de referencia
 
Research lines:
  • Development of psychonomic resources.Development of techniques and instruments of social and psychological measurement, tests construction, validity and reliability assessment, statistical and computer treatment of data, new technologies in psychology, psycho-informatics, electro-psychology, computational techniques.
  • Traffic and safety psychology.Study and prevention of risk factors, accidents, driver/pilot behaviour under risk conditions, efficiency and improvement evaluation of transport prevention measures, risk perception and decision taking in traffic ground and air-risk exposition, prevention and damage evaluation of occupational risks.
  • Human mobility and social prejudice.Study of the social and psychological aspects related with migrations and vulnerable groups, measurement of prejudice against different collectives, sex and minorities (racism, misogyny, homophobia), developing of acceptance and rejection indicators, study of the autonomy and life quality of the elderly.
