The research team led by Dr. Sandra Pérez has over 15 years of experience in the study of suicidal behaviors, encompassing both clinical and community populations. Collaboration among its members has been strengthened through joint projects with other researchers, such as Professor Enrique Baca¿a leading figure in suicide behavior research¿since 2018. The team is also notable for its ability to train new researchers, as evidenced by the contributions of Drs. Layrón and Salom, current team members whose academic careers began under the supervision of the principal investigator during their early academic work. In terms of scientific output, the team has addressed various areas, including longitudinal studies on suicidal ideation among university students, non-suicidal self-injury in adolescents, and meaning-making processes among suicide-loss survivors, in collaboration with Professor Neimeyer from the University of Memphis. Additional research has focused on suicidal behaviors and associated risk and protective factors (such as meaning in life, social validation, or adult attachment) in both Spanish populations and individuals of other nationalities, such as ...The research team led by Dr. Sandra Pérez has over 15 years of experience in the study of suicidal behaviors, encompassing both clinical and community populations. Additional research has focused on suicidal behaviors and associated risk and protective factors (such as meaning in life, social validation, or adult attachment) in both Spanish populations and individuals of other nationalities, such as Mexican citizens. The team also has experience in validating assessment instruments related to suicidal behaviors, such as the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire and the Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury. Recently, the team has also initiated a new line of research exploring emotional responses in victims of partners with narcissistic traits and characteristics of the dark tetrad.
To date, the team has supervised 7 doctoral theses and is currently supervising 4 additional dissertations focused on suicidal behaviors in various populations, including law enforcement personnel, Mexican clinical populations, and university students. Altogether, the team's multidisciplinary experience¿which integrates psychology, psychiatry, and community health¿along with its strong commitment to training and prevention, positions it as a leading reference in suicide research and intervention.
