A project to achieve the improvement of the diagnosis of childhood tumours, led by the full university professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Rosa Noguera. This is the first project presented by the Universitat de València within the “Precipita” crowdfunding platform, promoted by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

The initiative to create a childhood tumours 3D images biobank, that will improve the research for new therapeutic bullseyes, aims to achieve a maximum of 25 000 euros through individual contributions.  The deadline to collaborate with this initiative will end in the middle of January.

The main objective of this action addressed to promote biomedical research financing within the area of onco-pediatrics is to “have a high quality 3D microscopic images material available and accessible trough a web”, explains Noguera. In this way, “we can study and connect shapes, dimensions, localisations and connexions between tumour cells and cells introduced into the tumour, thanks to the development of digital technologies”, adds the professor, who remembers that her group belongs to the Spanish Cooperative Research Thematic Network on Cancer (RTICC) and to the European Network for Cancer Research in Children and Adolescents (ENCCA).

Rosa Noguera is a doctor and full university professor of histology of the Department of Pathology of the Universitat de València. She has dedicated the nearly 30 years of her care activities to typify the genetics of more than 2 000 childhood tumours diagnosed in Spain.  Together with teaching, she also coordinates the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and also the Spanish National Reference Centre for Neuroblastoma Biological Studies.
