An ‘University umbrella’, main act of the World Action Week for the Education (SAME)

The Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences of the Universitat de València holds this Wednesday, 27 April, the acts of the World Action Week for the Education (SAME). From 25 to 30 April is celebrate worldwide this initiative with the slogan ‘La educación nos protege, protejamos su financiación’ (Education protects us, we protect its financing). The main act of this year is the ‘University Umbrella’ which will be celebrated in the Virgin Square of Valencia since 12:00.

The Aula Magna of the faculty will be the headquarters of different acts along the morning. At 09:45 the professor of the Department of Comparative Education and Education History, Ana Ancheta, will give the presentation ‘Mirando el horizonte’ (Looking to skyline); then Graciela Rico, coordinator of the Global Campaign for Education, will speak about the campaign. At 10:30 the students of the University will read a manifest. 

The main act of the session is the ‘University Umbrella’ which will be celebrated between 12:00 and 14:00 in the Virgin Square of Valencia. So, at 10:45 has been organised a meeting, at the hall of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences, of those who will participate in the act and they will give them umbrellas and posters. At 11:00 the assistants will go to the Virgin Square.

The Mundial Campaign for Education (CME), with the slogan ‘La Educación nos protege, protejamos su financiación’ (Education protects us, we protect its financing), demands to political representatives to accomplish their international promises and to set aside resources to finance the education of people around the world. That the reason why more than 124 countries of the world add to this action.

In the world there are 124 million of children and young people out of school. 52,9 million of them are in Sub-Saharan Africa, 50,9 millions in Asia and Pacific, 6,6 millions in Latin America and Caribe, 8,7 millions in Arab States and  5 millions in the rest of the countries in the world.
In 2015, 196 States signed the Objectives of Sustainable Development and promised to guarantee that all the children will have an inclusive, equitable and quality education in 2030, and a learning along their lives.

This World Action Week for Education (SAME) is an annual campaign which is celebrated all around the word to work about the importance of the education in countries of the north and south.  It has a character of increase sensitivity of public opinion and of institutional recognition and it is organised by the Global Campaign for Education (CME).
