José Viña is appointed doctor ‘honoris causa’ by Université de Rennes 2

Universitat de València’s full university professor of physiology, José Viña, is going to be appointed doctor ‘honoris causa’ by Université de Rennes 2 (France) next June 28th. Viña is an expert in aging, nutrition, and sport activity, and it is the second time he receives the ‘honoris causa’ mention.

Professor Paul Delamarche, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education in Université de Rennes 2, suggested his appointment. In 2008, Viña received another honoris causa by Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina.

José Viña Ribes was born in 1953. He has devoted his research career to aging matters and free radicals –control of different antioxidant genes through estrogens and diet’s components–. He has also studied diseases related to aging, especially Alzheimer’s disease, senile sarcopenia, diabetes and coronary artery disease, the metabolic alterations during aging and their prevention through antioxidants, or doping control among top athletes.
