The cultural centre La Nau inaugurated on Tuesday the 20th, at 19:30, two exhibitions. 'Juntos. Manolo Gil y Jacinta Gil (1945-1957)' can be seen at Sala Martínez Guerricabeitia. It shows simultaneous visions of the work by these two artists, leaders of Grup Parpalló. At Sala Estudi General, the exhibition ‘Imaginary. Una mirada matemática’ shows images created from equations. This showing has been organized by Real Sociedad Matemática Español (RSME), commemorating its hundred years of creation this way.

The Board Martínez Guerricabeitia of Universitat de València’s General Foundation shows in the exhitibion Juntos. Manolo Gil y Jacinta Gil (1945-1957) simultaneous visions of the work by these two artists. Manolo Gil was one of the most important Valencian avant-garde artists during the Franco’s first regime. The group Parpalló was created in 1956 by him and with the support of the art critic Vicente Aguilera Cerni.

Organized by Juan Ángel Blasco Carrascosa, the exhibiton is running to 22th April. It focuses on the time period from 1945, when both artists met, to 1957, year of Manolo Gil’s death. During this period the lived togther but each one developed their own art career.

Manuel Gil Pérez’ pictures (Valencia, 1925-1957) have been displayed many times partially as well as those of Jacinta Gil’s. These previous exhibitions are not an obstable for the current one because the new exhibition can help understanding better the work of the two artists.

The exhibiton shows 43 works and, according to the organizer, Juan Ángel Blasco, ‘they had not been previously displayed. Some of them had it, but many years ago’. He stated that ‘Manuel Gil is the most relevant Valencian plastic artist in the postwar Valencian artistic renovation period. Although he passed away too soon, at 32 years old from a severe pancreatitis, his spirit was alive in Jacinta Gil.’

Both private collectors and public and cultural institutions have collaborated in the searching and location of the works of art. Most come from Jacinta Gil, who not only lent works from her own collection but provided documents and important data like memories and experiences.

In addition to this, ten engraving plates and a selection of books about Manolo Gil and Jacinta Gil on the period from 1945-1957 are shown with a didactic purpose.

EXHIBITION IMAGINARY

This exhibition is about creating images from equations and experiment with mathematical objects through 3D glasses. All in all, play and interact with maths to be aware of the beauty of figures. Universitat de València inaugurates at cultural centre La Nau the exhibition called Imaginary. Una mirada matemática. This is an interactive exhibition which commemorates a hundred years of creation of Real Sociedad Matemática Española (RSME). The showing stresses the relationship between maths and art: maths are everywere, they are beautiful and almost everything (even the shape of a lime or a heart) can be expressed through numbers, through maths.

The exhibition is divided in three parts: the first one is a static section, showing 40 works created from maths principles; the second one is interactive and dynamic, offering several interactive programmes of mathematical visualization; the third one shows geometric forms from the late XIX and the beginning of XX and a selection of contemporary art from the collection Martínez Guerricabeitia.
