The UV research groups (GIUV) are regulated in the 1st chapter of the Regulation ACGUV48/2013, which explains the procedure for creating new research structures. They are basic research and organizational structures that result from the voluntary association of researchers that share objectives, facilities, resources and common lines of research. These researchers are also committed to the consolidation and stability of their activity, work in groups and the capability to achieve a sustainable funding.
The research groups included in the previously mentioned Regulation are registered in the Register of Research Structures of the Universitat de València (REIUV), managed by the Office of the Vice-principal for Research. The basic information of these organisms can be found in this website.

Description of research activity: The research group History and Historiography of the Spanish Language in its Diachrony (HISLEDIA) at the University of Valencia has a long trajectory. Its lines of research, History of the Spanish language and Historiography of the Spanish language, were initiated by Emilio Ridruejo in the early 1980s and led to the creation of a chair specialising in History of the Language and Dialectology, held by M.ª Teresa Echenique Elizondo in 1987. After Emilio Ridruejo's move to the University of Valladolid in 1988, the group was led by M.ª Teresa Echenique until her retirement in 2020, when the leadership was taken over by M.ª José Martínez Alcalde.
The HISLEDIA group has developed ten research projects funded through competitive calls, with the participation of researchers from various Spanish and international universities, which has contributed to the group's international projection and the consolidation of its research activity. The HISLEDIA group has developed ten research projects funded through competitive calls, with the participation of researchers from various Spanish and international universities, which has contributed to the group's international projection and the consolidation of its research activity. Since its creation, the group has addressed fundamental aspects of the study of the evolution of Spanish from both historical and historiographical perspectives, without losing sight of the contrastive perspective in its relationship with other languages and linguistic varieties in the Hispanic sphere, mainly Basque, Catalan, Aragonese, and Portuguese.
The members of the group have taken part in leading national and international conferences in their field, produced a significant number of impactful publications (both as a group and individually), and have a solid track record in training research staff and supervising doctoral theses. The group also has extensive experience in organising conferences, symposia, workshops, and specialist meetings. Among these are: the 5th International Congress of the History of the Spanish Language (University of Valencia, 2000), the International Symposium "Lexicography, Grammatical Codification and Phraseology in Honour of G. Haensch" (University of Valencia and Universität Augsburg, 2003), the exhibition "The Legacy of Rafael Lapesa: Valencia 1908-Madrid 2001" (Biblioteca Valenciana and Instituto Cervantes, 2008), the 26th International Congress of Romance Linguistics and Philology (Valencia, 2010), featuring a section directly related to the group's research; the Workshops on Grammatical Codification of Spanish: History and Historiography (University of Valencia, 2004); the International Workshops on Historical Phraseology (first and second editions, University of Valencia, 2015 and 2016); the coordination of the Historical Phraseology Section of the Congress of German Hispanists (Munich, 2017); the International Scientific Meeting "Contrastive History of the Castilian Language and its Historiography" (University of Valencia, 2018); and the organisation of the 13th Congress of the Spanish Society of Linguistic Historiography (University of Valencia, 2022).[Read more][Hide]
