The UV research groups (GIUV) are regulated in the 1st chapter of the Regulation ACGUV48/2013, which explains the procedure for creating new research structures. They are basic research and organizational structures that result from the voluntary association of researchers that share objectives, facilities, resources and common lines of research. These researchers are also committed to the consolidation and stability of their activity, work in groups and the capability to achieve a sustainable funding.

The research groups included in the previously mentioned Regulation are registered in the Register of Research Structures of the Universitat de València (REIUV), managed by the Office of the Vice-principal for Research. The basic information of these organisms can be found in this website.

Quantum optics, nonlinear optics and laser physics - QOVAL

Description of research activity:

The group has been doing research in quantum optics, nonlinear optics, laser dynamics and other systems since 1989, with stable and uninterrupted funding through the national research plans of the Spanish government. The research is of a basic nature and seeks to describe new phenomena, both through theory and experiment. An important part of the group's activity is the training of PhDs, with 10 doctoral theses having been defended by 2019.

  • Laser physics.Modelling and characterisation of the dynamics of mode-locked lasers.
  • Quantum fluctuations of light.Study of quantum fluctuations of light, in particular mechanisms that produce a squeezing of quantum noise below the shot noise level, as well as quantum entanglement.
  • Non-linear dynamics.Modelling, simulation and experimental study of the non-linear dynamics of optical cavities and other systems, solitons and spatial patterns.
  • Quantum walks.Theoretical studies on quantum walks and proposed implementations in optical devices.
