The UV research groups (GIUV) are regulated in the 1st chapter of the Regulation ACGUV48/2013, which explains the procedure for creating new research structures. They are basic research and organizational structures that result from the voluntary association of researchers that share objectives, facilities, resources and common lines of research. These researchers are also committed to the consolidation and stability of their activity, work in groups and the capability to achieve a sustainable funding.
The research groups included in the previously mentioned Regulation are registered in the Register of Research Structures of the Universitat de València (REIUV), managed by the Office of the Vice-principal for Research and Scientific Policies. The basic information of these organisms can be found in this website.

Description of research activity: In the general research activity of our group, the central idea is the notion of World Literature (Littérature-monde in French, cf. the manifesto published in Le Monde in 2007) as an updating of the concept of Weltliteratur (Goethe 1827, later discussed by other Western thinkers). The concept of littérature-monde defines world literature (and world literatures) as a network of relations and influences and not as a hierarchy of literary traditions. In other words, it refers to the totality of literatures written in different languages without the obligatory connection (which previously seemed essential) between language and nation. Originally used in French-language literatures in the postcolonial context (see also Glissant's Tout-monde 1997 or Nimrod's La Nouvelle Chose Française 2008), it is used here to refer equally to the literatures of other languages that constitute the cultural background of our group: Spanish and Latin American literature, Catalan literature, Slavic literatures, Anglophone literature, etc.
The name of the group, LiMiTeS, deliberately plays with the notion of limits as frontier spaces¿not as closing lines, but as zones of contact, tension and exchange,...In the general research activity of our group, the central idea is the notion of World Literature (Littérature-monde in French, cf. the manifesto published in Le Monde in 2007) as an updating of the concept of Weltliteratur (Goethe 1827, later discussed by other Western thinkers). The name of the group, LiMiTeS, deliberately plays with the notion of limits as frontier spaces¿not as closing lines, but as zones of contact, tension and exchange, areas that divide and unite at the same time. World literature and transcultural studies place us precisely on these margins where languages, texts, periods and mindsets intersect, observe one another and recognise each other. Thus, LiMiTeS reflects the group's intention to explore these zones of intersection in order to address essential questions about the universal and the singular, "the one and the diverse" (Guillén 1985).
In our research activity, French is usually taken as the base language, since it is the main working and training language of the members of the team. Spanish and Catalan/Valencian, which are the official languages of the Valencian Community and of our University, will also play an important role in the group's research.
As Pageaux (1994: 6) points out, comparative literature "opposes compartmentalisation, private hunting grounds, specialism"; it is a field of knowledge "fond of openness, inclined to synthesis". This spirit of openness and transversality inspires both our problematic and our general methodology. Within the framework of collective research, we adopt a contrastive perspective applied to different textual corpora, themes and literary and cultural movements.
Our research group is made up of specialists with established careers in various fields: diachronic linguistics (Elena Moltó Hernández, Xavier Blanco Escoda), literary translation and comparative stylistics (Xavier Blanco Escoda, Yauheniya Yakubovich Yakubovich, Sílvia Hueso Fibla), formal linguistics (Xavier Blanco Escoda, Max Silberztein, Yauheniya Yakubovich Yakubovich), literary and cultural studies (Elena Moltó Hernández, Sílvia Hueso Fibla, Beatriz Álvarez Palanca). This diversity allows us to bring linguistic studies and literary studies into dialogue, with the aim of producing a synthesis of knowledge based on the methodologies developed in each of these fields.
Our proposal is characterised by a distinctive and innovative approach to the analysis of literary texts on several levels, developed from a specific methodology that integrates the individual research and teaching trajectories of the team members (see the section "Planned activities"). This methodological uniqueness enables us to address transliterary and transcultural phenomena with a comprehensive and highly nuanced perspective. In this framework, the group relies on a conceptual and methodological apparatus which, although originating in various areas of philological studies (see the section "Methodology"), is reinterpreted and adapted in order to shape a truly genuine and differentiated proposal within the field.
In our joint research activity, we propose both a synchronic overview (transliterary relations within a specific period and social context) and a diachronic one (typological, generic or transtextual connections along a given temporal axis).
The approaches adopted may focus more on the formal properties, that is, the linguistic and discursive features of the texts analysed (comparative stylistics, translation studies, automatic processing of literary texts), on historical and social characteristics (cultural studies, Marxist and feminist criticism, hermeneutics and reception theory), or on typological and culturological dimensions (literary theory, poetics of myth, study of intertext).
In accordance with the general multilingual and multidisciplinary approach just mentioned, the lines of research that the team will follow are as follows:
- Contrastive study of literatures. Studies of texts in the working languages, both in a diachronic and a synchronic¿diatopic perspective, contrasting different textual aspects: motifs, themes, forms, genres and models, literary systems, periods and movements; study of literary universals and invariants.
- Comparative formal stylistics and literary translation studies. Linguistic, rhetorical and translation-oriented study of literary texts; automatic processing of literary texts; contrastive study of several translations; commented translation and self-translation.
- Aesthetics of reception and literary hermeneutics. Contrastive study of texts through their reception; historical, social, culturological and intertextual perspectives; (post)structuralist, formalist, Marxist, feminist and myth-critical approaches.
- Transcultural studies. Contrastive study of cultures and subcultures through the analysis of literary texts; linguistic approaches (realia, culturemes), literary approaches (mythologemes, topoi), and interdisciplinary approaches.[Read more][Hide]

- To organise seminars and conferences focused on the groups specific issues, especially in the field of comparative stylistics and literature, with French as the base language.
- To organise lectures given by members of the group and to invite external experts, with topics directly related to the group¿s lines of research.
- To carry out a research project oriented towards contrastive study based on French; to edit a collective research book produced by the team.
- To edit or co-edit monographic issues in specialised academic journals, such as Synergies Espagne, Quaderns de Filologia, Langue(s) et Parole.
- The overall aim of the group is to develop contrastive philological research, both individually and collectively, with French as the reference language, within the areas defined by the established lines of research.
- To participate in conferences, both online and in person, related to various research areas (French literature, general and comparative literature, linguistics, translation studies and cultural studies), e.g. AFUE Conferences, SELGYC Symposia, SATOR Colloquia, International NooJ Conferences, NODOS del conocimiento, as detailed in the sections Planned activities and Work plan
