The UV research groups (GIUV) are regulated in the 1st chapter of the Regulation ACGUV48/2013, which explains the procedure for creating new research structures. They are basic research and organizational structures that result from the voluntary association of researchers that share objectives, facilities, resources and common lines of research. These researchers are also committed to the consolidation and stability of their activity, work in groups and the capability to achieve a sustainable funding.
The research groups included in the previously mentioned Regulation are registered in the Register of Research Structures of the Universitat de València (REIUV), managed by the Office of the Vice-principal for Research and Scientific Policies. Description of research activity: The research activity of the enzymatic biomimetics research group (Greben) focuses on the development of systems capable of mimicking the catalytic behavior of enzymes whose activity is of biological or environmental interest. This group of enzymes includes antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase and the catalase and peroxidase families, as well as other proteins such as carbonic anhydrase.
This objective is pursued on several fronts, including the synthesis of mimetics (coordination complexes and nanostructured systems), their characterization and speciation under physiological conditions, the analysis of their catalytic activity, and the study of their reaction mechanism.
To this end, techniques such as organic synthesis, spectroscopy and spectrophotometry, potentiometry, and electrochemistry are used. Likewise, an important part of the work consists of the analysis, through computational modeling (DFT and molecular dynamics), of the developed systems and their mechanism of activity.
