Mestres, escoles i pedagogies del franquisme aims to redeem and make visible the important role that women played in teaching during the Franco dictatorship, using the extraordinary photography collection of two university museums: el Museu d’Historia de l’Escola de la Universitat de València y del Museo de Educación de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, thanks to this wide collaboration between both museums within the framework de la Red Española de Patrimonio Universitario (REPU), created in May 2024 as a result of the I Encuentro Nacional de Colecciones Patrimoniales Universitarias celebrated in La Nau.
The photographs gather multiples aspects of the education system of the Franco period and the presence of the female professors and students in this system. Thus, we found photographs of the activities that were developed in the women´s classrooms: arts and crafts, cooking, scenes of the representative gymnastics classes of the Regime, images where the school material of that time is displayed (blackboards or two-seater desks, among others), photographs of the school camps or medical exams that reflect the structures and forms as well as the distribution of their spaces.
This exposition aims to be a tribute to women who taught silently inside and outside the classrooms between 1939 and 1975, but also to girls who were formed during this stage of history.
ScheduleFrom 2 march 2026 to 30 march 2026. Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday at 13:44 to 22:57.
