Volleyball Spanish University Championship

Soria awaits the twice champions of Spain of Volleyball

The Volleyball team of the Universitat de València will compete from 25 to 28 April the Volleyball Spanish University Championship that will take place in San Andrés Sports Centre (Soria).

This time, the expedition lead by the coach Juanjo Susín will attend the championship with two teams, the men’s team and the women’s team. The coach says that “we are facing the CEU with brand new hopes for our two teams, as both of them are competing”.

The men’s team attends the championship with two consecutive champion titles. About the situation of the group, the coach says that “we are facing the Championship with the added difficulty of not having been able to get together for the whole year, as many of the athletes have competed with their federated teams in cities and places where it was not possible for them to have weekly contact with our team. Luckily they have never abandoned it and each time the team needed their services and they had to represent the Universitat de València, all the athletes knew how to act in the competition. And when the key moment came, all of them have been there”.

The men’s team will face in the group phase the universities of Extremadura, Barcelona and León if they want to defend for the third time the title they hold. “We face the Championship with high expectations, with so many memories to cherish from the last two years, but taking into account all the suffering we undertook and how much did it take to win. We are lucky to have been the same team for so much time, most of them are friends, but what all of them in general have in common are the experiences they have lived together. And after the championship we will be able to get to wherever we are supposed to get, always competing in the best possible way, offering an image in line with what our sport and the Universitat de València deserve”.

Regarding the girls, Susín is very satisfied with the classification and says: “this is the greatest joy of this team, which has been suffering for years, and not being able to compete in it”. About the team, he adds “there are so many different people who have been in the team for several years, but there are also many new players. Is in this mix where the strength of the group lays, as the most experienced players helped the new player realise how much this victory costs and how they are supposed to defend it in the best way possible, facing the competition, going for it, going for the game, and reaching the highest point possible. It will be the best way to participate in this experience and I am sure that this is just the beginning”.

The women’s team will have to face the universities of Valladolid, Coruña and Barcelona in the groups phase in order to fight for the medals.

Furthermore, Juanjo Susín adds that for him “as the coach of both teams, I am happy and proud to help these athletes to reach their goals (many of which were impossible for them until now), and also that they are able to represent the entity that supports them so much and allows them to enjoy this national championship. All the work and commitment both teams have shown and are the basis of this great success that is to represent the Universitat de València with both Volleyball teams, women’s team and men’s team”.

As on previous university sports occasions, the Physical Education and Sports Service offers live coverage and monitoring of the teams through its social networks (Twitter: @sefuv and www.facebook.com/SEFUV)) in which it provides to all the fans the most immediate information on the results of the games.
