Aprèn valencià amb Polimedia is an online course, produced by Universitat Politècnica de València, that allows distance self-learning mixing written information and recorded lessons.


Ben dit is a series that will help you to improve your Catalan while you visit the University of Valencia, and to discover publications by Publicacions de la Universitat de València.


Punt per punt is a series of teaching units to prepare users to take the Junta Qualificadora de Coneixements de Valencià tests at A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 levels.

Parla.cat is a virtual space with resources to learn Catalan at all levels. 


SpeakCat is a Catalan course focused on basic grammar and vocabulary. There are 10 units with activities about daily university life.


Argumenta is a set of self-learning materials to work on linguistic and communicative competeces within the academic environment.


Món A1 is a free online course for beginners organised by the Centre Carles Salvador.


C1 o Alça't is a podcast produced by Plaza Radio to prepare for C1 Catalan tests. Hosted by Vicent Marco and Maria Bodí.


Romanica Intercom suggests learning four languages at the same time (Catalan, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese). You will find a contrastive grammar, a learning guide, a corpus of texts and activities for self-assesment.


The aim of Gripau is to help students to write in Catalan. It is a tool to make easier and normal for them the use of Catalan within all the spheres of university life.


The Linguistic Standardisation Service of the Universitat Politècnica de València offers many resources to learn Catalan: exercises, dictations, activities and courses. 


The Languages Service of the Universitat d'Alacant offers exercises, activities and courses to learn Catalan. 


The Servei de Normalització Lingüística de la Diputació de València offers resources to learn Catalan. On their website you can practise with exercises, dictations, linguístic doubts, writing and listening.


Jugallengua is and app to learn Catalan by playing a game of questions and answers abaut language. You can choose a general category (spelling, vocabulary and morphosyntax) or a specific one (accents, dieresis, vocabulary, pronouns, etc).


Enjogassa’t is and interactive game to learn Catalan in a fun, dynamic and collaborative way. Created to be played on tablets, computers and smartphones.


Aprén jugant en valencià is a game developed by AVIVA Silla with different 14-question quizzes on vocabulary and grammar.


The Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua is the normative institution of the Government of the Valencian Community. You will find dictionaries, vocabularies, place names, etc.


The Direcció General de Política Lingüística i Multilingüisme of the Government of the Valencian Community publishes useful resources to improve you level of Catalan.  


The portal de la llengua gathers all the resources about learning, queries, news, software, etc. about Catalan offered by the Government of Catalonia. 

Dictionaries

The Diccionari Normatiu Valencià (DNV) is the lexicographic reference work published by the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (Valencian Academy of Language). It includes extra information, such as phonetic transcription or verbs charts. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.


The Diccionari de la Llengua Catalana (DIEC) by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute for Catalan Studies), is a general and normative dictionary: it includes the vocabulary, the expressions and the phrases accepted by the academic norm. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.


The Diccionari de la llengua catalana multilingüe castellà-anglès-francès-alemany includes the Diccionari de la llengua catalana, from Catalan to Spanish, English, French and German; and four bilingual dictionaries: Spanish-Catalan, English-Catalan, French-Catalan and German-Catalan.


Diccionaris.cat is a website created by Larousse with various dictionaries: Catalan dictionary of definitions, dictionary of synonyms, and bilingual dictionaries Catalan-Spanish, Catalan-English and Catalan-French. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.


The Diccionari.cat, by Enciclopèdia Catalana, is the most extensive dictionary of Catalan. It provides the updated contents of the Gran diccionari de la llengua online.


El Diccionari de Sinònims d'Albert Jané provides many searching options and links to works of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute for Catalan Studies). Each article is made up of an entry and a list of synonyms displayed by meaning.


Cercaterm is the search engine of terminology entries of any speciality and of free public access provided by TERMCAT. Here you can also check other terminology dictionaries as well as works of other reference bodies.


The Portal Terminològic Valencià is a glossary of specific terms and neologisms. Here you can search from other languages and get translations from Catalan into Spanish, English and French. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.


The Diccionari de Sinònims de Frases Fetes (DSFF) is an online dictionary that relates concepts to fixed expressions and idioms. It also gives grammar and linguistic information.


Cambridge has a website with a bilingual dictionary English-Catalan.


Word Reference is an online multilingual dictionary with a translation forum in Catalan and other languages. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.


Glosbe provides bilingual dictionaries in almost every language in the world. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.

Grammar and spelling

Gramàtica zero provides practical and easy answers to the most frequent syntactic questions using little terminology. Easy explanations and examples are available. It helps with specific doubts and allows self-assessment.


Gramàtic On (Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua) brings an easy access to Gramàtica valenciana bàsica and Gramàtica normativa valenciana to get quick answers to grammar queries.


Gramàtica bàsica i d'ús de la llengua catalana is a short version of Gramàtica de la llengua catalana, published by Institut d'Estudis Catalans, adapted for the lay public and for online use. If you are looking for more detailed explanations, visit the Gramàtica essencial de la llengua catalana.


Optimot, consultes lingüístiques is a search engine for grammar, style, spelling, vocabulary, etc. It includes different sources: DIEC, TERMCAT dictionaries, Diccionari català-castellà and castellà-català by Enciclopèdia Catalana, etc.

The Gramàtica del Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística is organised into levels to help you clear up specific doubts that tend to arise during the learning process.

Vocabulary

Duolingo is a language-learning platform with Catalan courses, among others, focused on vocabulary. Accessible by website or app for smartphones and tablets. Available on Google Play and on the App Store.


With RodaMots you can get a short message of a word or and expression with explanations and examples every day (Monday to Friday) via email, X or social networks.


Paraulògic is a game for learning new vocabulary and words and their meanings.


 
El Mot is like Wordle: a game to guess words in six tries.

Mallorcat is a self-learning platform to learn Catalan vocabulary with images, spelling and pronunciation.


Vocabulari en imatges shows a set of images of basic vocabulary displayed by topic with texts in Catalan and information in Spanish, French, English, Italian, German, Arabic and Chinese.


The university conversation guides are aimed to internationals students who want to get a basic knowledge of a language. You will find useful vocabulary and phrases in Catalan and other 21 languages. Available on Google Play.


The conversation guides published by the Valencian Government could be your first contact with Catalan. They are structured in an easy way to find the vocabulary of a given topic.


The Refranero multilingüe contains a selection of popular Spanish sayings, mainly proverbs and refrains, with their equivalent in several languages (German, Catalan, French, Galician, Ancient Greek, Modern Greek, English, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Basque).

Encyclopaedia

Enciclopèdia.cat is the main content website in written in Catalan. A universe of information in continuous growth with over 800,000 entries from 45 different sources and diverse topics such as language, history, economy, arts, politics, geography, science, nature, etc.


Viquipèdia is the edition of the free and collaborative encyclopaedia written in Catalan. Available also as an app on Google Play and the App Store.

Listening

Audio-Lingua is a collaborative database of real audio samples, registered by native speakers and organised by the CEFR levels. Available in different languages.

Aprendre valencià a la Dipu is a website to practise short conversations, daily situations and to work on Catalan comprehension and speaking. 


CLASS-TALK is a multilingual conversation guide with common phrases in Catalan, English and Spanish used in a university classroom. For teachers and students who use any of these languages to communicate.

Pronunciation

The Diccionari de Dubtes del Català Oral (DDCOR) is a tool to consult the different accents of standard Catalan. It provides general and specific guidelines for pronunciation of all the accents with audio files.


Els sons del català is a website to work on Catalan phonetics and phonology according to the European Higher Education Area.


The Guies de pronunciació del català website offers materials for learning Catalan pronunciation as a second language.

20 recomanacions per redactar bé is a short guide to write texts according to the interuniversity quality standards.


CUB is the University of Barcelona website for their language guidelines with resources to improve the quality of texts and documents.


Merlí is the style guide of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya with resources to improve your writing in Catalan such as grammar topics, graphic standards and model documents.


On the Language service website of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya you will find advice and resources for an efficient communication in Catalan.


The Manual de documents i llenguatge administratius is a tool to standardise and unify institutional documents, and it sets an administrative language model focused on style and language guidelines.

iQuiosc gives access to online press and magazines in Catalan for members. Available on Google Play and the App Store.


Ara is a newspaper in Catalan with a large online edition for members. It also has different supplements. Available on Google Play and the App Store.


El Temps is the oldest weekly publication about politics and culture written in Catalan. With offices in Barcelona, Valencia and Palma, its publications are about the news in the Catalan-speaking area.


València Extra is an online newspaper entirely written in Catalan. Proximity news, politics, culture, news about neighbourhoods, villages and regions and local sports. There is analysis, opinion, reports and videos.


Nosaltres La Veu is a Valencian online publication for reflexion and activism. Articles in Catalan about culture, language, territory and society.


Mètode is a magazine of the University of Valencia about the popularisation and study of science. A meeting point for science and humanities that allows the participation of artists, philosophers, sociologists, historians, journalists and writers.


Divulcat.cat is a website about popularisation of science written in Catalan and kept by scientists who write about logics, maths, astronomy, physics, chemistry, geoscience, agronomy, medicine, technology, society, psychology, etc.


Saó is a magazine of analysis and reflection specialised in Valencian affairs. It has different sections: the editorial, the collaborators, the interview, the monograph, society, arts, culture and books.


Debats. Revista de cultura, poder i societat is a magazine about culture, power and society. It is set out from a wide point of wide including social sciences and cultural studies.


L'Espill is a publication focused on essays, humanities and social sciences exclusively in Catalan.


Núvol is an digital magazine about culture that promotes the debate about books, films, poetry or theatre. Available on Google Play and the App Store.


Lletraferit is a Valencian cultural and literary magazine. It is mainly focused on Valencian culture and literature and includes reviews, short stories and sports.

The Balearic public television channel, IB3, offers all its contents on demand and for free. Also available as an app on Google Play and the App Store.


On FilminCAT you can watch films and TV shows in the original version with subtitles in Catalan. They also have a large selection of films and TV shows filmed in Catalan. Also available as an app on the App Store.


Easy Catalan helps you to learn with subtitled interviews to Catalan speakers. They include errors, grammar and diverse topics. There are also lists for beginners on Super Easy Catalan.


Have you watched 4cats, the series to learn Catalan made by Institut Ramon Llull? There are different situations to learn on each episode (cuisine, arts, sports, etc.) You’ll find language resources related to each episode on their website. Also available on YouTube.


Caçadors de paraules is a fun and nosy TV show about Catalan. Curiosities and secrets about language and speaking. The crew travels to find the different accents and the least known variations of the language.

Translation and correction

Salt.usu is a translation tool for Catalan-Spanish and Spanish-Catalan as well as a proofreading tool for texts in Catalan. It is based on a free software adapted by the Valencian Government. It also works for Android and iOS.


Softvalencià is a website where you will find guides and software to set the language of your computer in Catalan. It includes multilingual translators and spell checkers. Also available as an app on Google Play and the App Store.


Google Translate is the multilingual machine translation service by Google. Also available on Google Play and the App Store.


Bing Translator is the multilingual machine translation service by Microsoft. Also available as an app on Google Play and the App Store.

Certification tests

CIEACOVA coordinates interuniversity tests to get certificates of Catalan. On their website you will find tests samples and information to get ready for the tests. The Languages Service calls these tests every year.


The Junta Qualificadora de Coneixements de Valencià is a body belonging to the Valencian Government that certifies the different levels of Catalan. On their website you will find tests samples and information to get ready for the tests.


The escoles oficials d'idiomes (Official Schools of Languages) of the Valencian Government call the tests to get official certificates of Catalan. On their website you will find tests samples and information to get ready for the tests. 


The Institut Ramon Llull organises tests for the evaluation and certification of the knowledge of Catalan as a foreign language outside the Catalan-speaking area.


The Catalan certificates issued by the Government of Catalonia are internationally recognised official certificates with indefinite validity.


The Government of the Balearic Islands calls certification tests to get certificates of Catalan. 


Official Catalan tests issued by the Government of Andorra.


The Catalan universities call common tests of Catalan coordinated by the Comissió Interuniversitària de Formació i Acreditació Lingüístiques de Catalunya (CIFALC).

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
