Cristina Pérez Martínez. Degree in Modern Languages and their Literatures

20 june 2018

Italian philology? And why not choose something with a brighter future?

These are the questions I have had to face since I enrolled in Modern Languages and their Literatures. Nowadays, the research of utility is present in any field and perhaps because of this, the choice of humanistic studies is almost incomprehensible for some people.

The usefulness of these lies precisely in understanding the evolution of humanity. Without language, literature, art or history it would be impossible to structure a society or simply to know where we come from and thus be able to innovate, develop and even not fall back into mistakes that have already been made.

Thanks to Italian I have learned and assimilated almost as my own a new vehicle of communication full of an enriching and wonderful literature, with which I have been able to expand my ability to interpret and relate to my surroundings.

Teaching not only involves explaining spelling and grammar but also making the whole world of literature known. For me it has been fortunate to have been able to count on such a qualified teaching staff that has made me travel through such fantastic stories. In addition, I have always had their support and they have been willing to answer any questions I may have, as well as to awaken my interest in unknown fields such as translation, linguistics or the editing of literary texts.

Unlike the other philologies that are offered by the UV, Modern Languages has given me the opportunity to meet all kinds of people with very different interests, since French, German and Italian share the same common subjects and the classes are developed with debates that compare some literatures with others, making them much more interesting. In short, the choice to study the Italian language and its entire culture has been a precious experience during these four years.
