The call for proposals for the European Research Council (ERC) 2025 Advanced Grant, within the European research and innovation framework programme Horizon Europe, has been published. It will remain open until August 28, 2025.
The call is aimed at senior scientists, meaning applicants are expected to be active researchers with significant achievements. Evaluation is based on the scientific excellence of the researcher and their project. The budget is €683 million for an estimated 276 grants.
As a new feature this year, in order to further encourage the submission of excellent proposals by Principal Investigators currently based in non-associated third countries, the ERC has decided to double the amount of additional funding that can be awarded to Advanced Grant applicants moving to the EU or an associated country to take up their ERC grant.
The European grant will be up to €2.5 million per project for a maximum period of 5 years. There is the possibility of obtaining up to an additional €1 million under certain circumstances (up to an additional €2 million in the case described above). Furthermore, ERC grants cover 100% of eligible direct costs, plus a 25% contribution to indirect costs.
Since the 2024 Work Programme, the funding scheme applicable to the Advanced Grant call is lump-sum. You can find more information at these links:
