The Data Interaction aNd Augmentation (DINA) research group at the University of Valencia investigates the interface between data and humans, focusing on its analysis, augmentation (advanced graphics), and access through various interaction paradigms (Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, etc.). Data can be of very diverse nature, representing very different concepts, with varying levels of detail, dimensions, meanings, and even uncertainties. The correct visualization of this data helps humans understand its nature, meaning, and scope. Furthermore, data can come from diverse sources. At DINA, particular attention is paid to image processing techniques (including multiband images) and artificial intelligence to extract information from images using various techniques (segmentation, feature extraction, quantification, classification, and recognition, etc.). Regarding its application area, DINA focuses primarily on digital cultural heritage, constituting a highly interdisciplinary collaborative space.
- Digital Cultural Heritage. The research line in digital cultural heritage focuses on the use of digital technologies to document, preserve, analyze, and disseminate tangible and intangible cultural assets. It includes techniques such as 3D digitization, photogrammetry, laser scanning, computer vision, virtual reality, and semantic databases to preserve works of art, monuments, archaeological sites, and traditions, facilitating their scientific study, restoration, and public access without jeopardizing the originals. At DINA, we collaborate with other research groups to implement these techniques jointly.
- Multispectral image processing and artificial intelligence. The research line in multispectral image processing and artificial intelligence focuses on the automatic analysis of images captured in multiple spectral bands (visible, infrared, thermal, hyperspectral) using computer vision and machine learning techniques. Its objective is to extract physical, chemical, or structural information invisible to the human eye, enabling the detection, classification, segmentation, and prediction of complex patterns in large volumes of data.
- Data visualization. To explore the relationship that exists, at the level of perception, between types of data (continuous, discrete, categorical, etc.) and aesthetic variables (shape, size, color, etc.). Design and implementation of new proposals for charts, graphs and maps for the visual representation of data.
- Virtual Reality.Design and implementation of immersive environments, using virtual reality technology. Exploration of devices and hardware for interaction with the virtual environment. Graphic design and implementation of algorithms to visualise data (e.g. scientific data) in the virtual environment, as well as methodologies to interact with them.
- Ontologies.Design and implementation of graphs for information mapping. Data pre-processing for homogenisation. Term processing according to thesauri. Establishment of semantic relationships between data. Database management Graph visualisation
- Interaction.Design and implementation of graphical interfaces, integrating the visualisation of data through graphs and maps. Usability studies to improve interfaces, meeting the needs of different target audiences.
