Biography
 

Marta Albelda Marco is an Associate Professor at the University of Valencia (Spain). She is a member of Val.Es.Co. Researching Group (Valencia Español Coloquial), devoted to the study of Spoken Colloquial Spanish. She co-leads the project “Pragmatics attenuation and its genre variation: written and oral discursive genres in European an Latin American Spanish” (www.esvaratenuacion.es). Among her interests are the analysis of oral and colloquial language, the pragmatic communication, corpus linguistics, evidentiality and the pragmatic categories of attenuation and intensification. Biography
 

Adela García Valle, BA and PhD in Hispanic Philology, is Professor of Spanish Language in the Department of Spanish Philology at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of Valencia and member of the research group HISLEDIA of the UV (History and Historiography of the Spanish Language in its Diachrony. GIUV2013-080).

His teaching activity has focused on subjects related to the history of the language ("Philological Commentary" and "Diachrony of the Spanish language"), and the correct use of Spanish ("Norm and correct use of the Spanish language").

His research activity includes his participation in ten national and international research projects and more than seventy publications. The research projects have been the following: "Protohistory of the Spanish language" (1989-1992); " Valencian toponymic atlas" (1994-1995); "DILE. Commercial Spanish. Self-learning Spanish with multimedia technology and automatic speech recognition in CD-ROM and Internet version" (1996-1997); "The work of Rafael Lapesa: Foundations and consolidation of the historical syntax of Spanish" (1998); "Spanish phraseological diachrony" (2002-2205); "History, codification and fixity of adverbial locutions in a temporal segment of Spanish (1492-1596)" (2005-2008); "SAIL: Promote Language Learning Through Sport; Raising Awareness and Information about benefits of language learning” (2005-2007); "HISPROCAST" (2009-2011); "FRASLEDIA" (2014-2017) and "HISLEcDIAc" (2018-2020), one result has been the publication of the Historical dictionary of Spanish phraseology. A lexicographical task for the 21st century. Combinations of prepositional and adverbial locutionary character. Archetypal sample (Peter Lang, 2021). His publications include three books: Nominal variation in the origins of Spanish (CSIC, 1998), Medieval Hispanic notaries (University of Valencia, 1999) and Commentary on Hispanic texts: analysis of philological commentary (Tirant humanidades, 2109), as well as articles in indexed journals, book chapters, communications and invited papers. His main lines of research are the history of the Spanish language (historical phonetics and phonology, medieval legal language and historical phraseology), studies of Spanish in contact with other languages in its diachronic aspects and Spanish as a foreign language.

Among his most recent publications are: "Prepositional and adverbial locatives in their beginnings in medieval notarial documentation" (RHLE, in press); "Medieval legal phraseology: I. Latin formulae" (Vox Romanica, 2021); "Medieval legal phraseology: II. The Romance formulae" (Octaedro, 2021); "Phraseology in the process of translation from Latin into Romance in the 13th century: The foundations of adverbial locutions in notarial documentation" (Tirant humanidades, 2020); "Once again on the document of the Alcozar castle's inheritance based on a new interpretation proposal" in Linguistic studies in homage to Emilio Ridruejo (University of Valencia, 2019); "For the diachrony of prepositional locutions of finality in the peninsular linguistic sphere based on the Alphonsine chronicles and their translations into Galician and Portuguese", in How phraseological units are made: Continuity and renewal in the diachrony of the Castilian space (Peter Lang, 2018); " On the locutionary system of Spanish in its diachrony: the structure with nominal nucleus in the II volume of the First General Chronicle (Estoria de Espanna) by Alfonso X" (Vox Romanica, 2017); "The expression of cause through medieval locutionary prepositional combinations in the Alphonsine chronicles and in their translations into Galician and Portuguese" (with A. Ricós Vidal), in Phraseology through the history of the Spanish language and historiography (Tirant humanidades, 2017); "Prepositional locutionary combinations in Volume II of Alfonso X's First General Chronicle (Estoria de Espanna)" in Spanish Phraseology: Diachrony and codification (Annex 104 of the Journal of Spanish Philology, 2016); "Orality and discursive traditions in ancient documentation (for a review of discursive traditions based on oral language in notarial writings)", in Themes, problems and methods for the edition and study of ancient Hispanic documents (Tirant humanidades, 2015); "Adverbial expressions in the legal sphere: From the medieval fueros to their consolidation in the language" (Journal of Spanish Philology -CSIC, 2010); "Medieval legal formulae. A preliminary approach from the notarial documentation of Navarre" (Yearbook of the History of Spanish Law, 2004), etc. She has also been an external evaluator as a specialist in research journals such as Dicenda. Hispanic Philology Notebooks (Madrid, 2015); Omázein (Santiago, Chile, 2015); Études romanes de Brno (Czech Republic, 2020); Quaderns de Filologia de la Universitat de València. Estudis lingüístics (Valencia, 2020); Journal of the History of the Spanish Language (2021); RFULL. University of La Laguna Philology Journal (2022) and Romanesque Studies at the University of Murcia (2022).

She has combined teaching and research with academic management as degree mobility coordinator for the Bachelor's Degree in Hispanic Studies, assistant (2015-2018) and titular (2018-2021). She has been a tutor in the "Entreiguals" student mentoring programme - "Incoming students" mode (2015-2021). She has also been coordinator and tutor of the external internships in companies of the Master's Degree in "Advanced Hispanic Studies" (2012-2021) and tutor of these internships in the Bachelor's Degree in "Hispanic Studies" (2012-2021) and in the Bachelor's Degree in "Hispanic Philology" (2006-2014). She is also currently coordinator of the UGA courses (University of Georgia, USA) at the Universitat de València since 2015 and has been a member of several commissions in the FFTiC, recruitment for Associate Professor positions, (2001-2002, 2010-2013), of the CAT of "English Studies" (2015-2017), of the "Review of Qualification of the FFTiC" (2018-2021) and of the "Academic Commission of the Master of Advanced Hispanic Studies" of the Department of Spanish Philology of the FFTiC (from 2019).

Biography
 

I am a Professor of Spanish Language in the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia. I earned my PhD in Hispanic Philology in 1996 and was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize in 1997. My research activities have primarily focused on the study of colloquial language use, and I am a founding member of the Val.Es.Co. research group (Valencia, Colloquial Spanish). I have dedicated a significant portion of my work to the analysis of intonation functions in spoken language. In this area, I have published notable works such as 'La Entonación coloquial. Función Demarcativa y Unidades de Habla' (1997, Universitat de València), 'Comentario Fónico de Textos coloquiales' (2002, Arco-Libros), 'Aspectos de la entonación española: viejos y nuevos enfoques' (2006, Arco Libros), 'El estudio de la prosodia en España en el S. XXI: perspectivas y ámbitos' (ed.) (2011, Universitat de València), 'La enseñanza de la entonación en el aula de E/LE' (2012, Arco Libros) in collaboration with Adrián Cabedo, 'La voz del lenguaje: fonética y fonología del español' (2012, Tirant Humanidades) in collaboration with Mercedes Quilis, or 'Sistema y uso de la entonación en español hablado: aproximación interactivo-funcional' (University Alberto Hurtado, 2019).

Since joining the University of Valencia in 1993, I have complemented my teaching and research work with various management activities: member of university faculty hiring committees at various times, Director of the Master's in Hispanic Studies at the University of Valencia (2006/2007 academic year), Secretary of the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia (from October 2007 to November 2010), Coordinator and President of the Degree in Hispanic Studies at the University of Valencia (from November 2010 to November 2013), Director of the Department of Spanish Philology (from November 2013 to November 2016 and from September 2019 to September 2022), and currently, I am the Secretary of the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia.

Biography
 

Marta Pilar Montañez Mesas has a PhD in Hispanic Philology from the University of Valencia, with the thesis Conversational Discursive Markers and Final Position. Towards a discursive characterization of their functions in speech units, directed by D. Antonio Briz Gómez, who received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

 

Currently, she is a Doctoral Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia. Previously, she has combined her teaching and research work at the UV as an associate professor with the teaching of Spanish Language and Literature in Secondary and High School Education, where she is Career Officer (Valencian Government, since 2016, now on leave).

 

In his research career, he has been part of several Research Projects:

-Nuevas aportaciones al Diccionario de partículas del español, directed by D. Antonio Briz Gómez, for whom he was a Predoctoral Research Fellow (with a "V Segles" grant and the FPU of the MEC in TC, 2006-2009.

- Estudio etnolingüístico y lexicográfico de la cultura del cuerpo en la sociedad actual, (BFF2003-01374), directed by J. A. Díaz Rojo, of the CSIC (Instituto de Historia de la Ciencia y Documentación “López Piñero”, Departamento de Historia de la Medicina, Facultad de Medicina y Odontología, Universitat de València), from which he was an Initiation Research Fellow (CSIC) at TC, 2005.

She is the author of several research articles and reviews related to her main research, but she also has numerous publications on Spanish as a foreign language and non-sexist language and communication.

Biography
 

Senior Lecturer at the Department of Spanish Philology of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication at the University of Valencia. She holds a BA in Hispanic Philology (UV), a BA in Anglo-Germanic Philology (UV), a BA in Portuguese Philology (UB; BA extraordinary award) and a PhD in Hispanic Philology.

As a lecturer in the areas of Portuguese Philology and Spanish Language, she has taught subjects related to historical grammar, textual analysis and the correct usage of Spanish. At present, she teaches Spanish as a foreign language, both at BA and MA levels.

She is a member of the UV Research Group HISLEDIA (History and Historiography of the Spanish Language in its Diachrony) and has participated in several state-funded projects. Her main lines of research include contrastive diachronic studies of Spanish and other languages (Portuguese and Catalan): historical pragmatics and syntax, historical phraseology, phonetics and phonology. She currently takes part in the HISLECDIAC Research Project (History and historiography of the Castilian language in its contrastive diachrony) financed by the State Program for the Promotion of Scientific and Technical Research of Excellence of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Sub-programme for knowledge generation), REF. FFI2017-83688-P, directed by professors Mª Teresa Echenique and M.ª José Martínez.

She combines teaching and research with academic management at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication. She has served as Vice-Dean for Academic Organisation and Quality from 2012 to 2018, and since March 2018 she is the Dean of the Faculty. She has co-directed the MA Programme in Research in Languages and Literatures from 2014 to 2018. She has been an elected member of the Faculty Board since 2012 and of the UV Governing Council since 2013.

Biography
 

Santiago Vicente Llavata is Associate Professor at the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia. He holds a degree in Hispanic Philology and Catalan Philology from the Universitat de València, and a PhD in Hispanic Philology (2010) from the same University with the thesis Estudio histórico de la fraseología en la obra literaria de don Íñigo López de Mendoza, directed by Dr. M.ª Teresa Echenique Elizondo. He was awarded in three consecutive internships (2004, 2005 and 2006) a lexicography, terminology and toponomastics scholarship at the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua. Apart from this philological training, he has specialized in the field of language and literature teaching with the completion of a Master's Degree in Language and Literature Didactics Research at the University of Barcelona.

Prior to his current professional activity, he entered by competitive examination in 2007 (career civil servant [BOE 10.11.2008]) to the Corps of Teachers of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate in the specialty of Spanish Language and Literature, and deployed his teaching activity in different schools in Mallorca and Valencia. Simultaneously to his work in secondary education, he worked as an part-time professor in the Department of Spanish, Modern and Latin Philology at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (2010-2011), as well as in the departments of Spanish Philology (2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018) and Didactics of Language and Literature (2014-2015 and 2015-2016) at the Universitat de València. From the 2019-2020 academic year, he is involved in a teaching innovation group of interdisciplinary nature Expanding diversities through GRUPal, developed at the Universitat de València.

He is part of the research group UV HISLEDIA (Historia e historiografía de la lengua española en su diacronía [GIUV2013-080]), directed since its foundation by Dr. M.ª Teresa Echenique Elizondo and, currently, directed by Dr. María José Martínez Alcalde, in whose framework he has participated in different competitive research projects (see, below, the section referring to projects). One of the most relevant scientific results of the HISLEDIA group is the elaboration of the lexicographic work DHISFRAES. Diccionario histórico-fraseológico del español. Tarea lexicográfica del siglo XXI. Combinaciones de carácter locucional prepositivo y adverbial. MUESTRA ARQUETÍPICA (Peter Lang, 2021). In the framework of this scientific group, he also participated in a multitude of congresses and academic forums at national and international level (Spain, Germany, France, Israel, Peru, Italy, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, etc.), both by means of oral communications and invited conferences. He has also been a member of the Organizing Committee of different scientific initiatives (conferences and congresses) promoted by the HISLEDIA group, such as the recent XIII Congreso Internacional de la Sociedad Española de Historiografía Lingüística, held in Valencia in April 2022. He has completed teaching and research stays at the Hogeschool Van Utrecht (Holland, 2001), at the Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy, 2019) at the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna (Italy, 2019), at the Universität Leipzig (Germany, 2023) and at the Instituto Politécnico do Porto (Portugal, 2024).

He is the sole author of the monograph Estudio de las locuciones en la obra literaria de don Íñigo López de Mendoza (marqués de Santillana). Hacia una fraseología histórica del español (Universitat de València, 2011), and co-author, together with Francisco P. Pla Colomer, of the book La materia de Troya en la Edad Media hispánica. Historia textual y codificación fraseológica (Iberoamericana/Vervuert, 2020). In addition, he participated as a writer in the preparation of the Diccionari de sinònims, antònims i idees afins (Edicions Bromera, 2007). His scientific production is completed with the publication of articles and reviews in different high impact journals (Revista de Filología Románica, Revista de Literatura Medieval, Vox Romanica, Nueva Revista de Filología Hispánica, Zeitschrift für Romanische Philologie, Verba: Anuario galego de Filoloxía, Romanische Forschungen, Círculo de Lingüística Aplicada a la Comunicación, Anuario de Estudios Filológicos or Revista de Filología de la Universidad de La Laguna, among others), as well as book chapters in publishers of excellence (Cilengua, CSIC, Tirant Lo Blanch, Peter Lang, etc. ). He also maintains a regular activity as an external evaluator in different scientific journals from Spain, United States, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica and Poland.

His main lines of research are:

  • The history of the Spanish language in contact with other peninsular languages and linguistic modalities (with a special incidence in the domains of Occitan, Catalan and Aragonese).
  • Historical phraseology and phraseography.
  • Historical paremiology and paremiography.
  • Historical lexicology and lexicography.
  • The integral philological study of the work of Don Íñigo López de Mendoza (Marquis of Santillana) within the broad framework of medieval Hispanic literature.

In terms of University management, he has been coordinator of the Spanish Language Teaching Unit, as well as coordinator of the first year of the Degree in Hispanic Studies: Spanish Language and its Literatures for three consecutive academic years (2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022). He has been a specialist of the subject of Spanish: Language and Literature II for the EVAU exams during the academic year 2022-2023, and currently is responsible for the subject of Spanish for the University entrance exams for those over 25, 40 and 45 years old.

Biography
 

Cristina Villalba Ibáñez has a degree in Hispanic Philology and a doctorate in Spanish Language from the University of Valencia. Her Ph. D. thesis, Actividades de imagen, atenuación e impersonalidad en los juicios orales (Facework, mitigation and impersonality in oral trials), was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize.

Currently, she works as an assistant professor at the University of Valencia, where she teaches undergraduate and master's courses within the Department of Spanish Philology. Previously, she has worked as an associate professor in the Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood and Primary Education at the Universitat Jaume I (UJI).

She has made research and teaching stays at the University of Boulder-Colorado (USA), Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Germany) and Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Germany).

She is part of the Val.Es.Co. research group, dedicated to the study of oral language and the informal register. Within this framework, her lines of research focus on discourse analysis, the pragmatic categories of mitigation and reinforcement, and the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
