By resolution on 5 June 2009, from the Office of the Vice-principal for European Convergence and Quality of the University of Valencia, the Educational Innovation Group in Social and Cooperative Economics of the University of Valencia was established, coordinated by Professor Joan Ramon Sanchis Palacio and formed by professors from different departments of the Faculties of Economics, Law and Social Sciences (Accounting, Applied Economics, Finantial Law, Commercial Law, Labour Law, Business Management, Marketing, and Social Work) attached to or associated with the University Institute on Social and Cooperative Economics IUDESCOOP of the University of Valencia.

The Group emerged from the development of the Master’s degree in Social Economy and aims to improve the quality of education provided as much in this official master’s degree as in the official doctorate in Social Economy initiated both during the academic year 2010-2011.

The main aims of the Group are the improvement and effectiveness of the learning processes in terms of social and cooperative economy in the framework of the European Higher Education Area. To this end, over the next three years (that will be significant in the implementation of postgraduate and doctorate studies in the field of social economy and cooperatives of the University of Valencia), group members will follow a training programme on the techniques and methods of educational innovation aimed at improving postgraduate teaching materials and creation and improvement of on-site and virtual infrastructures used in this module.

In this sense, the GIE (Group of Educational Innovation) in ESCES has already developed two projects of educational innovation PIE (Finestra Oberta) during the academic years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 and today it will develop a new PIE (DocenTIC) during the year 2012-2013.
