A. OLGA QUIÑONES FERNÁNDEZ AWARD FOR THE PROFESSOR MÓNICA GIL IN THE MODALITY OF DOCTORAL DISSERATION

On February 6th, the Vice-Principal of Undergraduate Studies and Language Policy of the Universitat de València, in the 4th edition of the A. Olga Quiñones Fernández Awards, gave the award in the modality of Doctoral Disseration 2017 to the Professor Mónica Gil Junquero, for her research: ““Los presupuestos de género en el estado español” (Gender budgeting in Spain).

A. Olga Quiñones Awards, driven by the Unit of Equality of the UV, aims to promote the incorporation of gender perspective and equality in teaching and researching. Originality and impact of the work have been valued in all the different established modalities, as well as the methodology employed and the composition of the work. The award in the modality of Doctoral Dissertation implies the receiving a diploma and a financial envelope of 1,500€.

Under the title “Budgeting with gender perspective in Spain”, there is a researching work in the framework of the programme of Doctoral Gender Studies of the IUED, defended in September and conducted by Josepa Cucó i Giner (UV) and Yolanda Jubeto Ruiz (UPV/EHU).

Mónica Gil Junquero presents in this work an analysis of budgeting initiatives with gender perspective implemented in different political-administrative levels in Spain, with the objective of finding out if these budgets are working to achieve this finality, as it is formally established in the regulations for the promotion of equality. Under this premise, institutional frameworks in which these initiatives are developed are analysed and it is also explored their capacity of transformation for the processes and public policies for the promotion of equality. Based on the obtained results, the experiences are catalogued in the Improvement in Transformation (PET: Progresión en Transformación), a typology elaborated ad hoc with the aim of classifying these initiatives according to the changes they have assimilated to favour gender equality. In the same way, problems and resistances which complicate the progress of these advances are presented, as well as a series of proposals in order to overcome them.

The award shall be delivered in the next weeks.
