In 1972, in the face of increasing demand and with the call for a more specialized focus for university studies, came the need to construct a new campus for the university science faculties. Funding provided by the Ministry of Education for the initial project was scaled back as a result of the 1973 oil crisis, resulting in fewer volumes and reduced quality of building materials, affecting the first buildings to be constructed. This was not the case with later buildings, which provide an interesting representation of the diverse branches of modern architecture, from the rationalist movement following Moreno Barberá to the emerging expressions of the postmodern movement.
