July 10, solemn investiture ceremonies for new doctors corresponding to the 2024-2025 academic year
The Faculty of Chemistry participates in the first solemn investiture ceremony for new doctors at the Universitat de València
València, July 13, 2026 – The Paraninfo of the Universitat de València hosted last Friday, July 10, the first of two solemn investiture ceremonies for new doctors corresponding to the 2024-2025 academic year. In this first ceremony, which marks the entry into the university's doctoral cloister, a total of 50 researchers from various scientific and humanistic branches received their doctoral degrees.
On behalf of the Faculty of Chemistry, and strictly due to the capacity limitations of the historic Paraninfo hall, only 6 new doctors were invested on this occasion. These six new doctors were responsible for representing our faculty in this solemn ceremony, which symbolizes the culmination of their intense research and training period.
The event, which followed the rigorous and traditional academic ceremonial, was presided over by the Rector of the Universitat de València, Juan Luis Gandía. Following the entrance of the academic procession and the official opening, the Director of the Doctoral School, Mariam Tórtola, proceeded to proclaim the names of the invested doctors, as well as those of their respective thesis directors and their sponsors.
Following university tradition, the new doctors from the Faculty of Chemistry wore the corresponding academic attire, receive from the Rector the specific symbols of their new degree: white gloves, representing integrity and responsibility in the exercise of research activity, and the laurel-wreathed biretta with the color identifying the branch of Sciences.
During his speech, Rector Juan Luis Gandía recalled that the investiture is "one of the most significant events in university life," as the doctoral degree certifies the ability to contribute new knowledge and defend it before the academic community. Likewise, the Rector dedicated heartfelt words of remembrance and solidarity to the families of the victims of the recent tragedy in Los Gallardos (Almería).
At an institutional level, it is worth noting that during the 2024-2025 academic year, a total of 566 doctoral theses were defended across the Universitat de València, 32 of which were in the Doctoral Program in Chemistry.
The solemn institutional ceremony concluded with the traditional performance of the academic anthem Gaudeamus Igitur by the University Choir of Valencia (Orfeón Universitario de València).
