The Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 December, of Universities enables the universities to teach courses leading to obtain degrees different from their official degrees with recognised validity in all the Spanish territory.

In this sense, the Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, which establishes the planning of official university courses, states in the eleventh additional disposition that the universities, exercising their autonomy, will be able to teach other courses leading to obtaini different degrees other than undergraduate, doctorate and master's degree.

The issuing of these degrees is determined by each university, avoiding any possible confusion with the official degrees regarding the names and formats.

Exercising the aforementioned authority, the Universitat de València regulates its own postgraduate and specialisation studies and establishes the different typologies of degrees offered.

The regulation for postgraduate studies in the Universitat de València was approved by the 273/2021 Agreement of the Governing Council, on 9 November 2021.

In accordance with all the stated above, the UV postgraduate qualifications are classified in the following categories based on levels:

  1. Master's degree (Lifelong learning)
  2. Specialisation diploma
  3. University expert
