From the definition of the word ¨heritage¨ that the modern dictionaries offer, we can draw two basic ideas: something valuable that is built or inherited that which is part of what one owns. If we apply these concepts, not to an individual but to a group of people, we can deduce the importance of The member of that group being aware that their heritage is part or also belonging to the group. If the latter is achieved, the conscience or the sense of belonging to the group, we are on track to consider our cultural heritage as something valuable that needs to be preserved and protected, And to better understand the necessity of education and heritage being inseparable.
These are the principles that encourage to promote this conference that is a part of the collaboration between the town of Chelva and the University of Valencia. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate that the archaeological heritage is a unique element to acquire that awareness of the self as a group, and offer excellent possibilities to implement models of local / rural development in which heritage management, without damaging the private enterprise, never lose sight of the collective dimension.
This initiative, organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation and the University of Valencia and the the Municipal Council of Chelva, in collaboration with Councils from the Tuéjar-Chelva Valley (Calles y Tuéjar), seeks to involve specialists from the University in the Valencian region and transfer knowledge to local society.
The lectures are opened to the general public. Certificate of attendance will be given for the presence at the conference.
