The computer network of the UV is basically based on Ethernet technology (10, 100, 1000, 10000 Mbps) and IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.

To provide connectivity to all buildings of the university, it has more than 1200 network devices including 10/100/1000/10000 Mbps Ethernet switches, and routers.

This equipment is installed, configured and managed by the Computing Service and under its Network Design.

The network is segmented into different VLAN’s and subnets.

• Over 40 routers
• Over 1,000 Gigabit switches.

• More than 2,000 access points for the wireless network

The management of this network involves the usage of various free software tools such as Netdisco, Cacti, NFSen, among others.
