The ERI Reading is in luck! In the last call of the National Research Plan of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness we have approved three research projects led by the different groups of the ERI Reading, for the period 2018-2020. This is a call for research projects of excellence, and the granting of these projects will allow the ERI Reading to continue with its progress in the study of reading, and to facilitate the transfer of these advances to society.

The project "Technological and instructional developments for the learning and teaching of complex declarative contents: advances in eTextbook and online teaching" aims to evaluate the effectiveness of several text comprehension techniques when the student has the text and questions before them ( as it happens in the PISA tests), of diverse feedback procedures and of several teaching procedures to favor the conceptual change.

In the project "Deciphering the mechanisms of the mental lexicon: From orthographic learning to semantic integration" we will study the underlying mechanisms of the mental lexicon from the orthographic learning processes in the school population, to the processes of lexical access and reading in the adult population through different experimental techniques (behavioral, eye movement tracking, electrophysiological correlates, magnetic resonance), including a novel approach to individual differences.

Finally, the project "Advancing literacy skills of the 21st century: understanding, integrating and evaluating multimodal information" aims to analyze self-regulation processes in multimodal reading, when primary and secondary students make use of Internet videos and of texts to learn. It is also analyzed, from the eye movement recording technique, how students integrate and critically evaluate multimodal information.
