Mª ELENA OLMOS ORTEGA

Born in Valencia (1957). Full university professor of State Canon Law of the Department of Roman Law and State Canon Law of the Faculty of Law since 1999.

Graduate in Law and Doctor in Law by the Universitat de València. Extraordinary prize in Llicenciatura and Doctorate. Graduate in Canon Law by the Pontifical University of Salamanca. She has gained recognition for six five-year period teaching.Mª Elena Olmos Ortega

 Her research activity covers aspects about women, law and religion, religious factor in Autonomous Communities, national and international protection of religious freedom, marriage law and matrimonial causes, among others. She has published books, chapters of books and a wide range of articles in specialised journals. She has conducted research projects about Family and Law. Invited speaker in National and International Conferences. She has supervised nine doctoral theses and several theses, research papers, and undergraduate degree and master’s degree final projects. She has gained recognition for six six-year term of research and one of transference.

She is member of scientific committees and advisory councils of the most renowned journals of her speciality, as well as of different scientific associations. She is academic of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Madrid since 2005. In the national level she was chosen as a President of the Spanish Canon Lawyer Association, being the first women holding this position (2012-2016); and named highly qualified Expert board member of the Advisory Board for Religious Freedom (2014-2020), which is currently dependent of the Presidential Ministry. She has also been external consultant of the National Teacher Credentialing Academy Program of the ANECA and advisory of the CNEAI.

 In her longstanding commitment with the Universitat, she has been member of the constituent Senate, of the Greuges Magistrates Court, of the Emeritus Committee, of the Advisory Board, of the Claims Committee and of the University Senate. She was Secretary of the Faculty of Law (1983-1985), Coordinator of the State Ecclesiastical Law field (1987-2006), Director of the Department of State Canon Law (2006-2012); and Dean of the Faculty of Law (2012-2018). For recognising her collaborative effort, in 2018 she received the Gold Decoration of the Generalitat Valenciana to the police merit and the Cross Award with White Distinction of the National Police.

Currently, she is General Secretary of the Universitat de València since 2018 after her nomination by the Principal María Vicenta Mestre Escrivá. She is also external evaluator consultant of research projects of the Ministry of Education and AGAUR research evaluator.
