The Incites Essential Science Indicators Ed.2020 has been updated, that covers a period of 11 years (from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2019). This edition classifies 6581 institutions (universities, research centres, hospitals...), in the Spanish and Valencian position only Spanish universities have been taken into account, discarding other research institutions.
InCites Essential Science Indicators are obtained from the counting of articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection (including Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index). Each journal is assigned to only one of 22 research areas. The counting includes research articles and review articles. retracted articles and other documents such as letters to the editor, corrections, abstracts are excluded.
Indicators analysed:
- Counting of papers by institution, is the total number of articles published in the period of 11 years. This indicator is based on the author's affiliation to the institution and should therefore be included correctly in published papers.
- Citations by institution, is based on the total number of citations of Web of Science indexed articles.
- Top papers, is calculated by adding the hot papers and the highly cited papers, discounting duplicate papers (which are in both categories).
- Highly Cited Papers, number of publications belonging to the 1% most cited in a field of research.
- Hot papers, articles published in the last two years that have received a very high number of citations in the last two months, and are placed at 0.1% of the best articles in relation to other articles in the same field.
