The Research Group on Emotional Bonds has a long trajectory and its origin goes back to the research line of the same name created in 2001. Since then, this line investigates the formation, development and loss of the most relevant emotional bonds that are established throughout life, and their implications in biopsychosocial development, well-being and health. The interest of our group is focused on the study of infant attachment, the paternal/maternal-filial bond, attachment in adolescence and adulthood, couple and friendship bonds, as well as the relationship dynamics associated with the different attachment styles. All this allows the design of interventions to promote healthy attachments that favor physical and mental health and an optimal personal and social development. The Research Group on Emotional Bonds brings the topics on which some of its members have been working for years, and incorporates new researchers with lines of work of growing interest in this field. The Research Group on Emotional Bonds brings the topics on which some of its members have been working for years, and incorporates new researchers with lines of work of growing interest in this field. The group contains researchers from the University of Valencia and other Spanish universities and professionals of recognized prestige in psychology, education and social services. It also has an extensive experience in research projects funded by public agencies and in collaboration agreements with municipalities. Several of the researchers of the group have an important teaching experience coordinating and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on this subject that favors the supervision of collaborative and predoctoral scholarships, research work and doctoral theses. Among its priorities is the transfer of knowledge for the benefit of society that allows the application of preventive psychoeducational actions and intervention, based on scientific evidence.
The research activity of the group has the following objectives: 1) To promote the development of secure infant attachment. To this end, psychoeducational programs are designed, implemented and evaluated to promote an adequate parental bond and the development of secure attachment in the infant. The early identification of protective and risk factors that influence the exercise of parenting and the design of rigorous evaluation instruments are necessary. 2) To analyze the influence of the child's attachment style in kindergarten and primary school classrooms and to study its relationship with emotional self-regulation, internalizing problems (depression, anxiety, self-esteem problems...) or externalizing problems (defiant behavior, aggressiveness, impulsivity...), relationships with peers and school performance. It is necessary to design assessment instruments that allow the identification in the school context of children whose attachment styles hinder their relationships and school performance. This detection leads to the design of interventions focused on the difficulties of emotional management and relational conflict that are characteristic of insecure attachments. 3) To understand the origin of disorganized attachment and bonding disorders and their impact on the development of children and adolescents who are victims of traumatic experiences. The aim is to design assessment instruments and specific interventions for this population. 4) To study the relationship dynamics, the level of satisfaction, and the risk of conflict and violence in the couple relationship according to the attachment style of its members. 5) To analyze the processes of separation and/or breakup of a couple and the experience of grief according to the attachment style of the person and its effect on the children and adolescents involved. 6) To analyze the bond established with animals and its relationship with emotional development, psychological well-being and the promotion of healthy caregiving behaviors.
