Run by Dr. Joan Oleza Simó, it will be the last conference of the Cycle Culture and Social Integration.
A few texts by Francisco Ayala serve as a basis for a proposal of work in which the literary knowledge dialogues with the knowledge about painting or about the social conditions of the modern world, in a frame of interdisciplinar cultural history. The conference covers from the portrayals of Charles II of Spain by Juan Carreño de Miranda to the avant-garde exaltation of the body in Picasso, Brague or Magritte, raging from the impressionistic fascination that the topic of nudity prompts in Degas or Renoir. And in parallel, it covers from the biblical areas and its mythos, specially the myth of Susanna and the elders, so many times reworked in the Renaissance and the Baroque paintings, to the more modern paintings, such as those in the bathroom, that now emerges, in the new conditions of the house and city, like the private setting of the triumph of the body, in a provocative epidose of the new (in 1929) avant-garde subjectivity.
