The development of reading acquisition literacy skills in bilingual German-Spanish children: An analysis of precursors and influential variables

The objective of this study is to carry out a longitudinal research on the impact of relevant precursor variables in the development of reading and literacy. Children, who learn two languages at school simultaneously, with varying levels of competence in the first and second language (L1, L2) have been evaluated using instruments in both languages at the end of the preschool and the first grade of primary school. In addition, the families were asked to complete a family survey. Results will be discussed and interpreted in light of relevant scientific-literature.

Bio

Kathrin Hohmann estudió Pedagogía/Educación infantil (B.A.) y Trabajo Social con enfoque en familia (M.Sc.). Fundó una asociación de jardines de infancia y estableció tres jardines de infancia bilingües (alemán-español) en Berlín. Trabajó como pedagoga y directora en Alemania y en el extranjero, incluyendo cuatro años en el Colegio Alemán de Valencia. Es doctoranda en la Universidad de Valencia desde 2018, realizando una investigación sobre el multilingüismo. Además, escribe textos y libros pedagógicos y realiza entrevistas a expertos para un instituto alemán de educación infantil.
