Prof. Andrés Gascón Cuenca, Ph.D., (extraordinary Ph.D. award from the University of Valencia in 2018), is the vice-dean of Research and Quality Assurance of the Faculty of Law, a researcher at the Institute of Human Rights, the co-director of the Legal Clinic for Social Justice of the Faculty of Law, and a professor at the Department of Philosophy of Law and Politics, all of them structures of the University of Valencia.

His main research areas are the philosophy of law that looks into the theory of recognition, the protection of human rights in the context of social minorities (especially with regard to hate speech, racism, xenophobia, and racial profiling), access to justice and legal clinical education.

He has publications in which he has analyzed the reception of international standards against hate speech in the Spanish legal system, negationism, theories of justice and its development in legal clinical, among others.

He is an elected member of the board of directors of the Global Alliance for Justice in Education (GAJE), secretary of the. review Cuadernos Electrónicos de Filosofía del Derecho and member of the editorial board of Anuario de Filosofía del Derecho.

He has a positive evaluación of: 2 six-year research periods (sexennium); 2 five-year teaching performance evaluation periods (quinquennium).

José Antonio García Sáez is professor for Philosophy of Law and Politics Department of the University of Valencia. He is also a member of the Human Rights Institute and the Legal Clinic for Social Justice at the same university. He is member of the Steering Comitee of the reviews Anuario de Filosofia del Derecho and  Teoría y Derecho. He is the main researcher of ArgumentaDH project, and has lead also the European Project EDUCAP (Multiplying Educational Capacities to Combat Sexual Violence Against Children).

His main research fields are the philosophy of international law, the systems for protecting human rights, and the history of international relations.

Clàudia Gimeno is Assistant Professor of Administrative Law at the Universitat de València – Estudi General since 2023. She holds a PhD in Law from the Universitat de València (2022) and has undertaken research stays at Ca' Foscari University of Venice (2021) and the University of Groningen (2020). She teaches and has taught on several undergraduate and official Master’s programmes at the Universitat de València, as well as on various postgraduate courses.

Her research activity has mainly focused on three areas: (1) the interaction between European Union rules on the freedom of establishment and urban planning law, (2) the improvement of regulatory quality and inter-administrative relations, and (3) the impact of artificial intelligence on public authorities’ activities, particularly regarding its territorial and environmental implications. The latter currently constitutes one of the main research lines of the research group to which she belongs, REGULATION UV. Within this framework, she has actively participated in several research projects and knowledge-transfer contracts, as well as in the organisation of academic conferences and workshops.

Jorge Correcher Mira, Full Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Valencia, researcher at the University Institute for Research in Criminology and Criminal Sciences, at the University of Valencia. In addition, he works as a Collaborating Professor of Criminal Law at the Open University of Catalonia.

Member of the research group of the University of Valencia "Current trends in Criminal Law and Criminology: Prevention and criminal guarantees" (GIUV2017-382), currently directed by Prof. Dr. Lucía Martínez Garay (previously by Prof. Dr. Juan Carlos Carbonell Mateu). Within the framework of this group, which focuses its activity on the study and critical analysis of modern penal reforms based on the foundations and limits established by the preventive and guaranteeing function of Criminal Law, it has participated in the research and work teams of four projects financed at the state level (PID2021-123441NB-I00; DER 2017-86336-R; DER 2013-48284-R; DER 2010-18825), as well as another project granted by the Valencian Government (GV/2017/154). Likewise, also within this research group, he has coordinated as principal researcher a research project entitled "Penal system and social exclusion: an obstacle for persons deprived of freedom", (GV/2021/047), financed by the Valencian Government. In the framework of the latter, he has led two conferences and coordinated a collective book with the results of the project, Penal system and exclusion: a comprehensive look at the conflict of inequality, edited by Tirant lo Blanch (2023). Externally to this research group, he has participated as a member of the research team in a state project on the effectiveness of the criminal justice system, focused from a criminal procedural perspective (RTI2018-095424-B-I00), a projectfocused on the multidisciplinary study of terrorism, executed at the UMA (PPIT.UMA.B1.2018/13), and as a member of the work team in a state multidisciplinary project on the social perception of corruption, executed at the University of Murcia (CSO-2016-78258-R).  


Among his publications, the publication of the book Principio de legalidad: ley formal vs law in action, Tirant lo Blanch, 2018, the result of his doctoral thesis, directed by professors Juan Carlos Carbonell Mateu and Antoni Llabrés Fuster, can be highlighted. Regarding other lines of research, his work on the process of overcriminalization of the right to free expression of ideas in the Spanish penal system can be mentioned. On this issue, Dr. Jorge Correcher has published on hate speech, the glorification of terrorism, as well as the current regulation of "crimes of opinion". On this topic, it is worth highlighting his monograph The crime of promoting terrorism and humiliating the victims: from the printing press to the social networks, Aranzadi, 2023.

In total, his research activity includes three monographs (one co-authored), as well as 16 articles in scientific journals and 16 chapters in books published by prestigious legal publishers (SPI). It has a research semester for the period 2014-2019, granted by ANECA.

In terms of management and leadership, in addition to having been the IP of the mentioned project, he has been the coordinator for three years of a teaching innovation project subsidized by the Vice-Chancellor of Formative Programs of the University of Valencia. In addition, he has extensive experience in academic management tasks, being able to highlight, in the first place, his position as coordinator of the double degree in Law and Criminologyof the Faculty of Law during the period 2018-2024. Currently, from the 2023-2024 academic year, he is combining the positions of director of the Master's in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice and secretary of the Department of Criminal Law, both at the University of Valencia. Finally, it can be mentioned that, since the 2017-2018 academic year, he coordinates the Penitentiary Clinic within the Legal Clinic for Social Justice of the Faculty of Law.


Finally, in matters of transfer, it participates in different contracts executed within the framework of art. 83 LOU (now art. 60 LOSU), in his position as coordinator of the Legal Clinic for Social Justice of the University of Valencia. In this area, he has also been the main researcher of two contracts signed with the Observatorio Ciudadano contra la Corrupción. Likewise, in 2022, he signed a minor contract, with the aim of producing a technical report for the Housing Ministry of the Generalitat Valenciana. The assignment consisted of the preparation of a study on the concept of real estate harassment, based on the answers offered by the Criminal Code for such practices, and, based on an assessment of its suitability, to propose an alternative regime of administrative sanction, within the competences of the Housing Ministry.

Clara Viana Ballester, Doctor of Law and Graduate in Criminology from the University of Valencia (awarded special honors in both Law and Criminology), is a Professor of Criminal Law at this University. She has been recognized with four five-year periods for teaching merits, two excellent advanced Docentia levels, and a six-year period for research. Her doctoral thesis is published in the Monograph Collection of the Congress of Deputies, under the title “Immunities and Inviolabilities: legal nature and dogmatic conception. Special reference to parliamentary inviolability” (2011).

He belongs to Research Group GIUV2017-382 on “Current trends in criminal law and criminology: Prevention and criminal guarantees.” He has conducted research stays at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (Freiburg) and Paris II-Panthéon-Assas. Her lines of research include the personal causes of exemption from criminal responsibility (personal-functional guarantees), authorship and content on the Internet, the legal consequences of crime, and criminal enforcement, specifically the measure of probation. She has been a member of various research projects funded by national, regional, and university public institutions. During 2018-2019, she was the principal investigator of an R&D&I project awarded by the Valencian Regional Government for emerging groups entitled “Probation: political-criminal foundations and practical application.” Currently, since 2021, she is co-PI of a State Research Plan project entitled “The erosion of the principle of legality in the contemporary criminal justice system: diagnosis and proposed solutions” (R&D&I PID2021-123441NB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ and “ERDF A way to build Europe”).

Since her beginnings as a lecturer at the University of Alicante, where she was an Assistant Professor (LOU) for five years, she has been deeply committed to teaching and educational innovation, participating as a member and in the management and coordination of various innovation projects and networks, both at the University of Alicante and the University of Valencia (she has been the coordinator of seven projects and a member of eight others). She is currently the coordinator of the Educational Innovation Group, registered in the Register of Teaching Innovation Groups at the University of Valencia, called “Penal en Vena” (ref. GCID23_2589092, PevUV) and co-coordinator of the consolidated innovation project “Multimedia materials for teaching and learning criminal law.”

She has taught in the Bachelor's Degree programs in Law and Criminology, as well as in the double Bachelor's Degree programs in Law-Business Administration and Law-Criminology. She has also taught in the Master's Degree program in Business Law (Commercial, Labor, and Tax Consulting) and in the Master's Degree program in Criminal Guarantees and Socioeconomic Crimes. She has also supervised numerous Master's Theses (TFM) in the Master's Degree in Criminology and Security and in the Master's Degree in Criminal Guarantees and Socioeconomic Crimes.

Her experience in university management in a statutory position dates back to 2012, when she was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Faculty of Law and, since 2016, Secretary of the Center. She is secretary of the Academic Degree Committees (CAT) for Law, Criminology, and Political Science and Public Administration, secretary of the Faculty of Law Board, and a member of the Quality Committee, the Internship Committee, and the Faculty of Law's Temporary Teaching Staff Selection Committee 2, among other collegiate bodies. In recent years, she has participated as a member in multiple Selection Committees for contracted doctoral faculty (CDr.) and permanent faculty (PPL). She is also an elected member of the Center Board and the Faculty Senate of the University of Valencia.

She is currently Professor of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Valencia and Collaborating Professor of Civil Law at the Open University of Catalonia. Graduate and doctor at the University of Valencia with the thesis The faculty of building on developable land defended on October 30, 2002.

His lines of research focus on personal law, especially childhood and the elderly, and family and property, in which subjects he has published numerous articles and made various collaborations for teaching manuals, collective books, magazines and publishers of recognized prestige. It has obtained recognition by ANECA for a six-year period of current research.

In the field of management, she has been Vice-Dean of Social Policy and Participation since 2024 and President of the Equality Commission and the Sustainability Commission of the Faculty of Law of the University of Valencia, and a member of the Faculty of the University of Valencia since 2025.

He has taught undergraduate courses at three universities (Universidad Cardenal Herrera CEU and UOC). At the University of Valencia he has taught undergraduate teaching in different degrees and in different subjects; also in postgraduate studies, both in Spain in the Master of Law (Practice in Family and Inheritance Law), the University Master of Constitutional Law (Constitutional typologies of property rights and the social function of property) or the University Expert Diploma in Children's and Adolescents' Rights: Contexts of application and approach to Rights, of which she was also co-director together with Professor Jorge Cardona Llorens; as well as internationally in the Master of Constitutional Law at the Autonomous University of Honduras (Constitutional typologies of property law and social functionof the property).

He has participated in numerous teaching innovation projects and is currently co-PI of the Consolidated Group, previously a project, together with Professor Dolores Mas Badía, called Legal and Teaching Materials 3.0. He has participated in several research projects (R&D) financed by the Ministry, the Generalitat Valencia, or private institutions with principal researchers from different Spanish universities. He is part of two research groups at the University of Valencia: Law, rights and older people (DyPM- GIUV2023-578) and Well-being, Insurance and Pensions (WIP- GIUV2017-399). She participates as an external evaluator of doctrinal articles for Spanish and foreign legal journals. He has carried out various research stays in international reference centers in legal matters such as La Sapienza (Rome) or Panthéon-Assas (Paris II).

Associate professor in Procedural Law Department. Degree in Law and in Business Administration (University of Valencia, 2009),  Executive Master in Business Law (Centro de Estudios Garrigues, 2012), Master's Degree in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice (University of Valencia, 2014) and PhD in Law (University of Valencia, 2018).

Her current research focuses on procedural mechanisms for the protection of human rights, both judicial and extrajudicial, an area in which the study on the protection of environmental rights through the criminal justice system should be highlighted. She has also worked on other aspects related to procedural rights and guarantees, such as the right to defence, the right to appeal or the admissibility of witness evidence, among others. She has been visiting researcher in the following centres: Universidad Central de Chile, Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (Heidelberg), Centre for Environmental and Global Justice (Northumbria University), Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (University of Oslo), International Association Human Rights Institute (London).

Member of the MEDARB research group at the University of Valencia and Head of the Criminal Procedural Law Section of the Ibero-American Law Institute. Tenured lecturer since 2024 in the Department of Philosophy of Law and Politics at the University of Valencia. Since 2007, she has been a senior lecturer and associate professor at the same university. She was also a tenured lecturer at the European University of Valencia, in the Faculty of Social Sciences, coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and chair of the Works Council. She has over a decade of experience in public administration in areas such as Social Welfare, Analysis, Immigration, Citizenship and Cooperation, and the Regional Parliament.
She holds a degree in Law from the University of Valencia (1995–2000) and a European PhD in Human Rights: Current Issues from the University of Valencia and the Università degli Studi di Palermo, awarded with the distinction of Summa Cum Laude. PhD Programme with Quality Accreditation (2008).
She holds accreditation as a Contracted Doctor (2014) and a Private University Lecturer (2015), two six-year research periods (ANECA 2022–2024), one five-year period (2021) and seven three-year periods (2010–2026). She currently teaches the subject of Human Rights in English and has also taught other subjects such as Philosophy of Law and Theory of Law in Spanish and Valencian. 

She has served as Secretary of the Statutes Committee from 2022 to 2025 and is also a member of the working group tasked with adapting the University of Valencia’s Statutes to the LOSU.
She is a member of the Academic Coordination Committee for the Master’s Degree in Human Rights, Peace and Sustainable Development and of the work placement module for that Master’s programme. She is a member of the Academic Committee for the Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Valencia.
Her main areas of research include: human rights, immigration (family reunification and unaccompanied minors), matriarchy, politics, climate justice, artificial intelligence, new alternative forms of care, ageing and teaching innovation. She collaborates with the following research groups: Human Rights and Globalisation (Derglo), ‘The Alan Watson Group: The Making of Western Law’ (WESTLAW) and ‘Gender, Migration and Digital Transformations in Transnational Contexts’ (INTERGENDIG). 
Author of over a hundred publications in prestigious journals and publications. In 2022, she received the Solveig Norsdtröm Prize, awarded by the Chair of Peace and Justice at the University of Alicante for the academic years 2021–22 and 2024–25, and the Vice-Rectorate for International Relations and Development Cooperation, for the best article and best book chapter, with a prize of €1,500. She has supervised a doctoral thesis and more than fifty undergraduate and master’s dissertations.

She has undertaken research visits to the Universities of Palermo (Italy), Mainz (Germany), Poznań (Poland) and the European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg, France); she has taught at the Universities of Vienna and Bucharest; and she is co-director of a development cooperation project with Colombia.

Biography
 

Maria Amparo Ballester Pastor has been a Senior Professor of Labor and Social Security Law at the University of Valencia since 2008 and advisor to the Economic and Social Council of Spain (expert by Government appointment) since 2024. She has been educated at the University of Valencia and Cornell University (United States). She directed the University Institute of Women's Studies (2016-2020) and the Chair of Feminist Economics (2018-2019), at the University of Valencia. She was vice president of EUFEM (University Platform for Feminist and Gender Studies) and co-president of the Equality Commission of the Spanish Association of Labor Law and Social Security (2018 and 2019).

Professor Ballester Pastor has dedicated a good part of her professional career to research on gender discrimination in the workplace and social security, which has been reflected in numerous publications. She has also researched employment discrimination for other reasons (particularly age), conciliation/co-responsibility/working time, rights of migrant workers, fundamental rights in the labor dimension, temporary hiring, social law of the European Union, prevention regulations of occupational risks, and Social Security.

She has carried out several comparative law investigations based on funded stays at foreign universities where she has been a visiting professor, among which Stockholm University can be highlighted (carrying out research funded in 1996 on the reform of the pension system that was later the subject of publication) or Mac Gill University in Montreal (conducting funded research in 2010 on Age and Gender Discrimination that resulted in several publications). She has been the Main Investigator in several competitive research projects, one financed with funds from the European Union (international project 'Culture, custom and gender' 2002-2004). She has been an evaluator of undergraduate and postgraduate university and teaching degrees for the Andalusian Knowledge Agency. She has been an expert in evaluating Legal Sciences teachers for the Spanish Agency of Evaluation -ANECA- (2010-2018) and has been part of various evaluation commissions for research projects in Spain and Chile. She has been an external evaluator for various legal journals and has been part of the scientific committees of many projects, conferences, and seminars.

In the field of knowledge transfer, she has collaborated with different union entities, business organizations, professional associations, local entities, regional administrations, and other types of entities in the transference of research results. She has been part of the teams that have prepared three bills registered in the Congress of Deputies: a bill for equal pay between women and men (registered in October 2017), a bill against precariousness and for employment stability (registered in June 2018) and a bill on co-responsible working time (registered in November 2018).

Outside the strict university environment, her professional activity has had various aspects: She was a substitute Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community from 1996 to 2015. From 2015 to 2019 she was part of the European Network of Legal Experts in Gender Equality and non-discrimination, an advisory body to the European Commission on gender matters. Between 2020 and 2023 she carried out senior positions in the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy of Spain: From 2020 to 2021 she was the Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Labor and Social Economy of Spain. And, from April 2021 to November 2023, she was the Chief of Legal Coordination of the Second Vice President of the Government. During her years of activity in the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, she participated in the negotiation and preparation of legal regulations, including, among others, RD 901/2020 on equality plans; RD 902/2020 on equal pay; RDL 28/2020, on remote work; RDL 9/2021, known as the "rider" law; or RDL 32/2021 on labor reform.

Currently, she is Assistant Professor Doctor of Private International Law at the University of Valencia. Previously, she was Researcher in Training at the University of Valencia and beneficiary of the Scholarship for the Training of University Professor of the Spanish Ministry of Universities (FPU 2017).

PhD in Law from the University of Valencia (cum Laude). Double Degree Program in Law and Political Science at the University of Valencia, with extraordinary prize in both degrees. Official Master's Degree in Law, Business and Justice from the same University, also with an extraordinary prize, as well as the Master's Degree in Access to the Legal Profession of the UNED. Subsequently, Doctoral Program in Law, Political Science and Criminology of the University of Valencia.

Author of several publications, contributions in Congresses and seminars, related to Private International Law on family matters, as well as collaboration in the organization of International Congresses. Highlighting, among them, the book “Menor y responsabilidad parental en la Unión Europea” (“Children and Parental Responsibility in the European Union”), published in 2021 by the publisher Tirant Lo Blanch. Likewise, teacher of the compulsory degree subject of Private International Law. Additionally, it should be highlighted the participation in research projects such as the European Action Grant Project "MiRI – Minor's Right to Information in civil actions – Improving children's right to information in cross-border civil cases".

Finally, she has been beneficiary of different scholarships for stays abroad, such as the four-month research stay at the University Paris II Phanteon-Assas, under the supervision of Profa. Sabine Corneloup or the Max Planck Society, in cooperation with the Lindemann Foundation, Scholarships 2022 for International Reasearchers. Likewise, winner of the XXII Manuel Broseta Pont University Legal Studies Award.", Manuel Broseta Pont Foundation.

Miguel Gimeno Ribes (Valencia, 1988) studied Law (Hons), Business Administration (Hons), and Musicology. He also holds a Master of Science of Law (Hons), and a PhD in Law (Hons) from the University of Valencia. After a four-year period (2011-2015) as a Graduate Research Assistant while writing his doctoral dissertation, he joined the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance (Munich) as a Senior Research Fellow [Wissenschaftlicher Referent] (2015-2016) and worked in a research group on financial regulation [Otto-Hahn-Gruppe zur Finanzmarktregulierung], with which he continued to collaborate until 2020. Back in Spain, he has worked as an Assistant Professor (2016-2020), as a Tenured Assistant Professor (2020-2022), and as an Associate Professor [Profesor Titular] (since 2022) of Business Law at the University of Valencia. He has also been an external lecturer at Bucerius Law School (Hamburg) [2019-2022] and a Visiting Professor at the University of Trento (2023).

Funded by the DAAD, the Max Planck Society, and the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, he has carried out research stays at the Universities of Munich, Oxford, and Florence, as well as at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Hamburg). He has also participated in the postgraduate program at Harvard Law School as a Visting Researcher (VS/VR Program). His fields of research range from contract law to corporate governance, corporate finance, M&A, and financial regulation. His research methodology focuses on comparative law.

He has written three monographs on business acquisitions (La protección del comprador en la adquisición de empresa [The buyer’s protection in business acquisitions], Granada, Comares, 2013), leveraged buyouts (Endeudamiento empresarial y fusion de Sociedades. He is currently the leading researcher of a project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science on company law and climate change. In the past, he has been the leading researcher of two projects respectively funded by the BBVA Foundation (Shareholder activism) and by the Valencia Region (Shareholder Rights Directive II) and has been part of several research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and by the Max Planck Society.

He acts as a referee for a number of Spanish law journals.

He has been a member of the Council of the European Law Institute (ELI) since 2019 and a member of the Spanish national board of European Company Case Law (ECCL).
