The Technical and Maintenance Service (STiM) of Universitat de València has been working on training sessions for the university personnel regarding the use of evacuation wheelchairs in case of emergency. The sessions aim to guarantee a safe and efficient evacuation for people of reduced mobility in urgent intervention cases.
These sessions took place in April in the Blasco Ibáñez and Tarongers campuses and in May in the Burjassot-Paterna campus.
The sessions went through the main aspects such as the correct deployment of the wheelchair, the person’s transfer, stair use techniques and safety orientations for the evacuee and the personnel. This training of practical approach allows the personnel to gain the necessary skills to operate safely and efficientely in emergencies to contribute to evacuation protocols and reinforce the UV committment with accessibility and safety.
At the same time, an integral revision of all evacuation wheelchairs in the university has been carried out to verify their correct working and availability.
This action is part of the STiM strategy for evacuation methods operability, making sure they’re up to correct usage in case of need. The initative has receive a positive response from the attendants who have mentiones the utility of practical training on developing operative skills for the use of these tools.
