The University of Valencia has entered the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings for the first time in its 2025 edition and is one of only seven Spanish institutions recognised, being the only one from the Valencian Community. This ranking classifies the best universities worldwide based on academic reputation and prestige. The University of Valencia stands out alongside 300 other institutions from 38 countries and territories.
In its 14th edition, the 2025 ranking is based for the first time on six indicators grouped into three dimensions, providing a more robust evaluation of reputation and reflecting the growing importance of this aspect within the academic community.
Among the 300 institutions ranked, the University of Valencia is placed in the 101-155 range at the European level, 201-300 globally and 6-7 in Spain.
The ranking’s dimensions include peer comparison, which accounts for 20% of the score, where universities are pre-selected and respondents rank them from 1 to 5. Another factor is voter diversity (20%), which considers that an institution receiving votes from a broad range of territories and disciplines has a stronger reputation than one with votes from a more limited scope.
Finally, vote count, which carries 60% of the weight, consists of a survey conducted among a sample of academics selected by THE, in which they identify the universities they perceive as the best in research and/or teaching within their field.
Internationally, the ranking is led by Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Oxford. In Spain, the top-ranked institutions are the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Carlos III University of Madrid.
